The UKCS BF:BC2 Servers

Postby Unspecified on Tue Jun 15, 2010 6:16 pm

Hello

When we first opened a BF:BC2 server back in March there was alot of initial excitement in the game. So much so that we got a second server up and running shortly afterwards. However since then their use has gradually dwindled as the interest in the game has dropped as people have returned to other games and the 'shine' has worn off.

From an admin perspective they were very unstable in terms of availability and showing up in server lists and the servers supported little or no in game plugins or administrative controls. What there was frequently broke after updates.

Given the technical problems with them and the fact that their use has dropped to such a degree that the they don't reach 'critical mass' anymore (enough players on the server to make it attractive to passers-by to join in); the decision has been taken to close both the servers down. This will happen over the next few weeks.

Whilst the closing of a server is always sad, it was definitely worth a try and hopefully it provided UKCS members with a fun place to play with each other during the boom weeks of the games initial release.

I'd like to thank all the admins and players who helped get the servers off the ground and gave it that 'UKCS feel', and especially TC and Jihn for their hard work behind the scenes on the myriad of technical issues that faced them.

Never fear though, UKCS will continue to improve upon and grow the games it provides and supports in the future.

Thanks,

The UKCS BF:BC2 admin team.

As Unspecified says, we are unable to continue supporting the BC2 servers; as a result we will be slowly phasing out this forum over time.

Thank you to everyone for your patronage and the work you have all put into trying to get the servers to work. <3

Cant say I disagree with the decision to be honest, without more of the freedom as allowed by say the Source based games, the BC2 servers sadly lacked a UKCS flavour ... in short both servers were bog standard servers with just the UKCS names and as such there was little to no reason for players to return to those specific servers.

I did enjoy the times a few UKCS players were on, but in honestly most of the time it was just the same as any other random server... at times it was actually worse than some as the admin recruitment was still underway thus leaving the servers lacking in admin control.

In closing I do say thank you to TC for putting up the servers, it was worth the attempt, and to the admins who did a great job when they were able to play... the work is appreciated by me at least

there are plenty of others out there, they are all pretty much the same due to lack of 3rd party mods and forced rental.

Well that sucks :P There's still plenty of other servers about, it's just a shame it's such a console port that it offers nothing to a community like UKCS.

anyway.... back to Recon hell :(

For those still playing, message friends on Steam to find out the server name they are on or on the off chance the ingame friends feature is working follow your friends through there. Even though we don't have our own servers there are still UKCS players to play with on others :)

I'm not aware of any plans to do so at the moment, but im sure TC will give it some consideration when the details are available.

this is a sad thing to hear..... :( its not my section but i like to see how it was doing, in the beginning it was busy, i think it could still become busy if we could manage to get plugins, or events going, im speaking this from a source game background so i dont kno if mods are possible on BC2 that easily ??? :S hope it returns as you guys all did a great job.

Its a pity EA/DICE are so slow...the new patch + latest server update seem to have made for a more fast paced and normal BF game, some issues remain but you can at least shoot to kill now, and the server software seemed a lot more stable.
