Less than 6-8, you're probably looking at the 4-5 bud range.

Chef Hat is high tier yes - but searing plasma isn't mid tier, its lower than that unfortunately. Vivid is mid tier.

I thought searing was higher then vivid...I think searing looks better, hehe.

Out of curiosity...do you happen to know what the list is of unusual effects? Value wise, lowest tier to god tier.

I've tried to wrap my head around it, but when talking with some traders they value this and that effect higher then someone else would. >.<

No, because the one you buy in the store comes with a decal tool.

Unpainted bills is worth 6 keys
Low to mid tier painted bills 6.5 keys
High Tier painted bills 7 keys
Buds are worth 15 to 16 keys ( 34 to 35 ref maybe more )
Vintage Bills is worth 2 buds to 2.5 buds ( 30+ keys )

Normally you will have to add a key or 2 to buy buds with bills

Putting a metal value on stuff like Bills is difficult as it depends on the current rate of keys. At the moment, it's difficult to find someone selling keys for less than 2.44 ref a piece. From what I've seen of current prices, Bills is 6 keys, buds is two Bills. Going from the metal value of keys from before, this roughly translates to 14.66 ref for a Bills and 29.33 ref for buds.

Keys now tend to sell from between 2.33ref and 2.66ref. This all depends on the seller. So I suggest you remain patient and wait around looking to buy for 2.33 (I have bought around 10 at this price since they have been 2.66ref, but that has been down to patience). It's only difficult to find someone selling lower than 2.44 if you don't have the patience. Patience is a virtue.

If your buying buds and paying with bills hats, you can expect to pay 2bills and 1 maybe 2 keys. This will depend on what color the bills hats are painted. Higher value paint may require nothing be added where as mid > low tier > no paint may result in the seller wanting up to 3 keys added.

Also buds tend to go for 16-17 keys but this has started rising slowly. Bud sellers are getting greedy as unusuals are starting to sell for promos ONLY, less people seem to want unusuals due to the way the unusual prices are falling and climbing.

I'm completely new to trading, been swindled a few times for some rare items i had now I think I need to know what I'm doing!

For a festive minigun, or even a strange minigun, what should i be asking for in trade? I have some reclaimed metal but I have no idea of going prices.

Any help would be great, cheers!

For the strange mini gun you will end up paying between 3 and 4 refined, for a festive mini gun i think they go for 1 to 2 ref ( buy for as close to 1 ref as possible or less ) and a strange festive mini gun you would be looking between 5 and 7 keys i think

http://tf2spreadsheet.blogspot.com/ or http://tf2tp.com/ can be extremely helpful, especially the second (as it seems more actively accurate). usually i use both when it comes to a specific item.
most are quoting Ebenezer for a Bill's+. can't be bothered looking up the rest ;) ...though most of the festive wear-able's vary from 5 to 7 ref' if i remember right. would be worth checking. i could be massively wrong by now.
