Insurgency Beta 2 - RELEASED

Given our kin-ship with HalfLife 2, here is a separate forum to discuss anything related to HalfLife 2 and the various Mods out there (eg, Gary Mod, Zombie mod etc)

Insurgency Beta 2 - RELEASED

Postby Sc(x)ttish Duck Hunter on Thu Aug 23, 2007 5:10 pm

It's been a while but the team have updated the site.

The dev team has been reorganised and they have a new man in charge of models, expect to see this in 1.2

Heres a list of fixes and changes for 1.2:

InsMod Team wrote:Patch News
We're working hard on a patch that is going to be released as soon as possible, with the next update to follow. We don't know if it's going to be 1.2 or something else yet, but here is what it's currently looking like:

* Added Overhead Map feature
* Added Commander Promotion feature (commander is no longer a class, but instead is an earned responsibility)
* New Team/Squad Selection Menu with player customization and weapon selection
* Improved linux server support
* Reduction of client-side crashes
* Team autobalance
* Measures against TK'ing and spawn camping
* Objective capture requirements and times tweaked due to popular demand
* Improved navigation (people should know where to go, what to do, a lot easier)
* Improved damage model
* Lowered player viewheight so players cant hit you when completely concealed
* Various map improvements and optimizations
* Spectator improvements
* Fixed M203 issues
* Fixed various exploits
* Fixed various small bugs

Many of you have been asking for an ETA and that's not an unreasonable request if you're dealing with a commercial product. However, this mod is being made entirely by a crew of volunteers and being given away for free. As such, they're not required to be at their PC working x hours a week on it and other things take priority. They're all as enthusiastic about playing insurgency as you are, so you can be sure that they're eager to get the next update out and improve everyone's gaming experience.

The level of activity I see behind the scenes here is huge, the operation is organized in a professional manner and there are sensible systems in place to move development along. We know it's frustrating having to put up with some of the bugs. What I'll say is this: it takes time to fix things properly. We want the next update to be a success and that means we have to get it right. Your insmod gaming isn't going to be improved by a half-finished update.

Here are some things we plan on addressing in future patches after the one we're currently working on:

* Continuation of bug fixing and gameplay tweaking/improving
* Focus on rewarding players for capturing objectives and following orders
* Focus on improving league support
* Tutorial/Training map
* New and improved weapons, maps, and other content
* Global stats system
* Improved interfaces
* Improved voice communications
* Improved commander system
* Improved gore, explosions, and other effects
* Introduction of experimental sound-immersion features
* Continuation of the optimization process
* New gametypes revolving around light infantry vehicles and explosives
* New theater of play (still being brainstormed)

Major Bumpage:

Hello everybody!

There are some great news from the dev. team: the long wait is over and Beta 2 is approaching completion. Feature lock is 30th of September, and the patch will be available for download shortly afterwards, following appropriate testing. The development team is now giving the finishing touches to what is meant to be one of our biggest updates - a milestone that will hopefully give those who have been following our mod's progress some good reasons to be happy.

First of all, we'd like to thank you for providing feedback, for playing on the servers and contributing -one way or another- to the discussion, bug-tracking and overall testing of the game. Your suggestions have been very valuable and have given us a great source of information. Some of you have also been very useful as a shooting gallery, by the way, and your sacrifice hasn't been in vain: it helps the dev. team make better death animations. As long as you keep on dying, we'll keep working on the game so you can at least do it with style.

We are aware that there will always be something to work on, something to do better, and the development team appreciates your patience and constructive comments. After all, the game is for you to enjoy!

Now, the meat:

Beta 2, coming out this October, will see some major bugs fixed:

• Aiming with all weapons has been fixed
• Fixed Spawn Protection
• Insurgency will now support third-party TK protection systems, and will come with one in the default installation
• All the maps have been revised and tweaked wherever necessary
• Damage system has been improved
• The scoring system should now work properly
• Player viewheight is fixed
• Fixed loading Screen shows map info of LASTMAP instead of NEXTMAP
• Fixed the bug where dead players/bodies could capture objectives
• Fixed spawning inside other players
• Fixed the bug where grenades sometimes didn't make sound after bouncing off objects
• All objectives are now listed in the commander menu
• The M203 will now reload the 3rd grenade properly
• A primed grenade will now explode if you die
• Fixed several reported crashes

Not all is bug-fixing! There's some extra stuff as well:

• New HUD elements that will help you navigate
• Basic overhead map
• Re-Styling and re-skinning throughout the game.
• Commander promotion system
• Fast switching
• You no longer have to hit the forward key before being able to sprint

A full, detailed list of fixes and new content will be released with the upcoming patch.

The Development Team also welcomes its new members:

Malcolm Young (coding team), smjustice (sound engineer), EKS (coder)
Art Team: Swado, Brutal, Pete, Rek0, Pow89, JamesM, Spanks and Skjalg.

They are all really talented and their work is very impressive. You can expect great things from them in the near future.

In the meantime, stay tuned, and if you want to help, the best you can do is to spread the word about Insurgency. You are what makes Insurgency possible! We have a nice weapons animation test video straight from the dev team and a couple of new weapon renders to show you some of what's being done right now. Check them out!

Again, thanks everyone for your patience, and rest assured: Insurgency is alive, and the new patch is going to make the overall experience much more enjoyable! One thing hasn't changed, though, you will still need to hit the ground after the patch, specially with the ironsights now driving bullets right where they should. You have reasons to be happy, but also reasons to be scared!

I think there is soemtihng about linux, and ins is sounding great. However i Can wait, TF2 is addictive :O

Also, shame there wontt be a UKCS INS Server

That is correct. The developers of Insurgency lost their chance for hosting on UKCS by not providing a working Unix version.

All of our capacity is now used up with the current servers were providing.

Insurgency Beta 2 one week away
Dr. Spielmann // Nov 11, 2007 // 29 comments

Hello everyone!

The Insurgency Team would like to announce that Insurgency Beta 2 is entering its last week of development.

More details on Beta 2, including the exact release dates for the server and client files will be provided in a major news update this Wednesday. The full changelog for Beta 2 will also be provided this week.

The development of Beta 2 has taken one month longer than we intended. During this extra time, there has been a steady daily progress: bug fixing, new content, map improvements... are only a few of the things we've been taking care of. Although some of you were dissappointed about the delay, this month has helped a great deal in making Beta 2 better. It's a much more stable version right now than what it would have been last month. We have also used the extra time to find (and fix) new bugs and implement some of the suggestions you've given us at the official forums.

We would like to thank all those who have supported the Insurgency Team during this long development cycle.

next week!

gretat!
