de_westwood pinksquares error (widespread)

Postby Blaze on Fri Feb 18, 2011 3:23 am

Hey mappy-people.

Just posting to inform you of a map error on de_westwood, large amount of textures being displayed as the pink & black chequered texture instead.
This problem isn't only confined to me, a lot of people on the server were experiencing it, with game restarts, steam restarts, PC restarts, texture deleting and map deleting from CS:S folders all having no effect on fixing it.

Here are some screenies;

This error kinda makes the map unplayable, which is annoying as it is one of my favourite maps around (especially as it's pistols only too :D!). As I mentioned before, it's not just a one off error, everytime the map is on it happens and happens to quite a few people each time.

Any suggestions?

Hmm, I dont have that problem :|

Did you try updating ur Video card driver, and removing the map from the local pc?
Delete de_westwood.bsp and de_westwood.nav

Ill check the servers if we are using the newest version of the map (if NIPPER made any new).

I have this issue too.

I have the latest driver and ofcourse tried deleting the map. As Blaze said alot of people seem to have this issue. I remembered last time I played it, it was around half the server that had it.

one idea I had, could it be GFX manufacturer related? I have an ATI GFX.

Might be an ATI problem, I'll check it out when I get home.

The solid lighting is a problem in a number of maps (kismayo is one), and limited to not just ATI. Try out mat_dxlevel 81 and see if there is any difference in the transparency.

Yea I have that collum of light in star as well. But haven't experienced it in any other maps. Though some maps make it almost impossible to see the crosshair. And if you turn brightness down you'll be unable to see anyone in the dark rooms.

I'm on an nVidia 460 and all drivers are up to date, map was deleted on numerous occasions from local as well, didn't do anything.
Also have that light column on de_star, hadn't played in quite while so I just assumed it was a new addition to the map (lol).

Use the new crosshair, and adjust the thickness and colour

Yeh i wanted the crosshair thicker but still small, a chode if u will. But it seems impossible, to get small need to change with cl_legacy_crosshairscale 1 or w/e it is. But to change thickness it needs to be set to 0

I found a fix for the light issue on star, fixed some of the effect issue with the mass dust floating around in the air on dust2. It was on the steam forums, will see if I can dig it out tonight.

play with r_pixelfog

use 1 or 0 for reducing dusty effects, but still really bad for me on atrocity, I think it works in conjunction with another command to work properly.

My Solution for this :
ATI Tray Tools
Tweaks ->Standard Tweaks -> Override Pixelshader Version -> set it to 1.4 et voila enjoy CS:S under DX9 without lightrays on nuke and no dust on dust2.
Note that you won t have the Flash advantage anymore.

Forgot about this thread, de_westwood, zero problems here, HD6870 Cat 10.10 (I think), using DX9+

Just noticed this thread, it's still an issue for quite a lot of people.

It isn't graphics card related, just a missing de_westwood.res on the fastDL (http://mapdownloads.ukcs.net/css/maps/de_westwood.res - 404), which means the textures aren't getting downloaded.
You can fix it with:

Code: Select all

"Materials/nippertextures/westwood/{nmww_skull1.vtf"

Or you could put de_westwood_s on as a replacement, it fixes this problem by embedding the textures inside the bsp :D
