Looking for large boots in the UK

Postby Shuriken on Thu Oct 09, 2014 12:07 pm

Anyone have size 13 feet? Wear boots? I can't find anything in my size let alone anything I like. Close to just ordering some from the states but I'd prefer to not wait a couple of months on a boat arriving. Any recommendations?
This is my sandvich. There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My sandvich is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my sandvich is useless. Without my sandvich, I am useless. I must eat my sandvich true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy, who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will. Before lunch I swear this creed: my sandvich and myself are defenders of my country, we are the masters of our enemy, we are the saviors of my life. So be it, until there is no enemy, but sandvich. Om nom.

For real outdoor footwear and genuine hiking boots. Up to size 16. I used to work with a bloke with size 16 feet. I has the tiny and alarmingly dainty feet size 9.

If you can find one near to you they have extra bargains at each store usually. Glad I could help as today is a lazy day for me otherwise.

ditto but a size 4... i think they presume that only manly men with feet larger than a 6 do things that may damage your feet....

For boots I have to say my Bergaus have lasted over 10 years and yup they have a great selection for all sizes. I have had great wear from some cheaper Karimor as well though picked up cheap from Sportsdirect.

I swear by Scarpa for boots now - my current pair have done hundreds of miles in the worst terrain Britain has to offer in all seasons including winter mountaineering in crampons and look like lasting thousands more!

Not the cheapest to buy, but in a cost/mile scenario I can't complain. :)

My one caveat to the above is that you should always try on boots as some makes will not fit certain feet.

Hello, fellow big-footer :)

Basically I agree with cowboyfromhell^^

I currently use a pair of cheap-ish Scarpas (can't remember the model) and they're okay although the stitching has blown on the sides and they're no longer waterproof. I bought them from Cotswolds which now seem to stock size 13s more regularly.

I had Scarpa Charmoz's before that and used them solidly for 4 years - winter/alpine mountaineering (including on gabbro which is stupidly abrasive), hiking, scrambling, birdwatching (hiking through saltmarshes and bogs sometimes) etc. When they finally went it was pretty rapid though. I first noticed a crack in the tip of my boot at the end of day 1 of a multi-day hike and by day 4 (when I finished the hike early) the tip of the boot itself was flapping off and was getting a lot of grit/sand in it. I'm considering getting another pair of these now I live in Scotland and can get back into mountaineering properly again.

I keep getting Scarpa mentioned to me lol, there must be something in it :D

They'll mostly be used for hill walking and a bit of scrambling when the weather is nice, glad you've given them a vigorous test guys :D

Now do I need shoes for winter or Elite Dangerous and a new flight stick...... £120 either way lol

Shuri,

Ebay. I also have large feet, size 14 in fact. I've got some rather nice boots currently, although they're starting to wear a little thin so may only last another 3 months maybe.
Best thing to do is look up reviews on some boot and go a hunting on ebay.

I tend to shy away from DM's as they constrict my bridge and heel too much. Leaning towards Scarpa still, they may be expensive but from what I can tell they wear really slowly across varying terrain types. Unfortunately ebay and the likes are showing £200 minimum for my size so it looks like Blacks is the way to go unless I can find something on sale locally, at least 70 quid in savings there.

I think you need to go into a shop outlet to try them out first,no matter which boot type you get. DM do different widths and fittings, which is why I got them, having a problem with my left foot after an accident. I tried them on first and they fitted a lot better than my other boots which were very expensive.

Actually go-outdoors does a decent range and do have many offers at times.

I thought Scarpa had a fairly narrow fit compared to Berhaus and Merrell which is at a good price on this site.

At present it is a 10% less guarantee.

Hi-Tec are there own branding and in many cases are excellent value for money, just read the customer ratings, which I have found to be quite impartial for the most part.

I wear hi-tec walking boots when I'm not running, they've been around almost as long as I have and for the price they're great. I've not tried their hiking boots as I honestly didn't know they made them lol.

If you've not checked already, look at army surplus sites. A friend of mine with size 15 feet swears by them.
