Yeah Rico, it's all about the money isn't it? :/

I think people would still find a way to access alcohol and cigarettes even if they were made illegal, just like people do with drugs.

And there is nothing wrong with the occasional drink for instance (unless you're an alcoholic!!!)

I've never been drunk, never smoked, never done drugs  I'm such a goody two shoes!!! lol

I do like white wine and gaming though 8)

I can claim two of those, but I've been drunk. Boy have I been drunk. Got so drunk one time I scared myself with my actions, and didn't touch a drop for well over a year. Even now I hardly touch the stuff.

I've been drunk and have smoked weed. Only smoked weed once though, was curious.

It was fairly amusing actually, I turned up to my induction day at Morrison's still slightly stoned and drunk (I got the munchies at about 9PM and kept asking about lunch, pissed off my inducting person). In all fairness I had been at my after-prom party so I went a bit wild. Didn't have any sleep either. It's a wonder I even got hired at Morrison's - yay for low standards

I have never touched cigarettes, weed or wine, and I never will, simply because I prefer to have an always clear mind and a healthy body.

If you accept that for yourself, it's your decision, as long as you don't hurt anyone, failing that, it's no longer a free decision of yours, and should be deemed illegal, or at least unaccepted.

Too much of ANYTHING is Bad for You, smoking joint from time to time with Your friends is for life like salt for eating :P

But, if you are sportsman, or porn actor, don't do it.... weed lowers your lungs potential (so you are tired faster when running, doing sports, etc.) and Your, excuse me, sperm production is lower.

how about legalizing shrooms as well. turns out they are perfectly safe to eat. Just what you do whilst under their influence can be damaging.
If they were made legal I'd open a bar with late night lock-in shroom parties, and make the walls out of lava lamps.

....and enforce a strict topless policy.

The fact is there just isn't enough evidence to support the argument that cannabis is safe to use like that, particularly the fact that cannabis is typically smoked is the problem. When the effects of smoking tobacco are well researched and documented, I think it unlikely that cannabis (nowhere near as well researched) will be legalised as you have to admit it's not a million miles off tobacco, it's just (supposedly) not addictive, but when it's smoked with tobacco, well, that is addictive. Plus the psychoactive chemicals in cannabis aren't unknown to sometimes have severely traumatic psychological side effects. You can argue that tobacco is legal, but for how much longer? I wouldn't be surprised if in our lifetimes we see tobacco taken off public sale as the actions are already being taken. The next step will be that tobacco wont be on display even in shops that sell it. Tax on tobacco will continue to rise, and the government will continue to increase the pressure on youngsters not to start. It's all a part of a long term campaign to eventually get rid of tobacco, legalising cannabis would not make lives better, from this perspective you could argue that it compounds the problem with tobacco consumption.

What if cannabis was separated from the "drugs" you're talking about. If it was on the same level (according to law) with tobacco and alcohol, you wouldn't have the drug culture with it. It's the prohibition law that has put cannabis into that situation. Please, please, please watch that document. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 4651731007
You can enjoy cannabis in many ways. Joint is probably the unhealthiest option. Vaporizing or eating is healthier!
I know too much is too much but everyone should have their freedom in this world. I personally think tobacco is disgusting and I prefer weed to alcohol. Still, wouldn't like to see tobacco/alcohol illegal. But why are you hypocrites (politicians) taking away the much better alternative for those.
This is madness.

there is something wrong with weed, it does cause negative effects in a large number of users, pretending it doesn't is quite ignorant, if you want to drink you should accept the side effects, if you want to smoke you should accept the side effects.

If any modern country stopped selling tobbacco its economy would crash almost instantly.

Tobacco makes billions and billions of pounds for countries economy. If Smoking was made illegal Tax would have to be doubled to counter it.

I dont even think countries can or would remove it because of how much money it brings in.

As for weed being legal i think it should be a class a drug and banned. It has tons of bad phsychological side effects that range from anxiety , depression , lack of motivation and ambition. And in quite a few cases schizophrenia and im sure theres other negative effects too they are just a few ive seen with my own eyes.

There's a Huge cannabis research farm near devon however and they are breeding and growing all types of the plant and they have made some very surprising finds. Cannabis is known to have psycho active chemicals that can be damaging but these researchers have found recently that cannabis also has some very strong Anti-psycho active chemicals that can be used to cure all sorts such as anti-depressants and so on.

If the goverment can somehow breed a crop of cannabis that has an equal balance of chemicals or more of the good chemicals cannabis would be alot more harmless and maybe even a bit beneficial.

How it is atm though its grown and shipped by idiots and cannabis nowadays apparently has some of the strongest strains since Purple haze went instinct. I dont know if any of you guys have smoked purple haze you would have had to have smoked cannabis in the mid and early 90's but it was top class very strong stuff that blew your head off and its made quite alot of people quite insane.

Unless the drug itself is controlled and created by proffesional scientists that can grow "Safe" types then it should be banned and illegal and class A.

yeah, i believe the anti-psychosis element is present in normal weed, but is not in modern skunk varieties, hence the large focus on the effects of cannabis in the last few years.

I dont think it's fair to say that the economy in the UK would crash as a result of stopping the sale of tobacco. From what little information I could find on the net in a casual search for some numbers, the information I found for America seemed to indicate that the money from taxing tobacco was spent mainly on campaigns to prevent youngsters starting to smoke, and also fed into the health service. I've no doubt that it would have an effect, and I can't be sure tobacco will be banned but it does seem like the next logical step now that the detrimental effects on users health is so well documented.

The cannabis research farm you are refering to appears to be GW Pharmaceuticals who are based in Salisbury, Wiltshire. They are currently researching the use of certain chemicals in cannabis for medicinal use. The problem with the pharmaceutical use of cannabis is that you cannot patent a plant, whereas you can patent a drug. By patenting a drug the company makes a profit by having exclusive rights to sell that drug, otherwise the research costs do not make business sense.

There are 60 known cannabinoids in cannabis (the psychoactive chemicals), but the two identified chemicals are delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). The remaining 58 known cannabinoids in cannabis are still largely unresearched.

Cannabidiol is not intoxicating but it has anti-inflammatory, anti-convulsant, anti-psychotic, anti-oxidant, neuroprotective and immunomodulatory effects. GW pharmaceuticals currently have a product called Sativex which is an under the tongue spray and is mainly used as a pain killer for those suffering from multiple sclerosis.

One thing that did actually make me lol while researching Tetrahydrocannabinol was that one proposed lethal dosage would be to smoke 1500 pounds in 15 minutes :!:

I don't think it's really fair to put cannabis in the same category as heroin and cocaine, but then I would argue that I consider the classification of drugs as more or less irrelevant. In some respects classifying a drug like cannabis as class C makes it seem harmless to an experimental teenager, and trying a class B drug then seems more harmless. It is the addictive qualities of the class A drugs that makes them more risky, but by that point the harm has already been done. So from that perspective you could say that there should only be one classification of drug.
