No, the problem is what would happen if he sat and said that. Would his nose grow or not.

But then he's telling the truth, so his nose wouldn't grow. So that makes it a lie, so his nose would grow.

At this point in the story hes a wooden puppet and doesn't grow biologically as we would, therefore it's a lie so his nose would grow.

Wouldn't this only be a problem if it counted on statements being true forever?

Ie, "My nose will grow now", it grows. It has begun growing, therefore his previous statement is invalid and it stops growing?

(Moved to Thinkers, btw)

it depends purely on one variable: how many times must the if/then/else equation run? once, then his nose won't grow.

He is both lying and telling the truth, like wise his nose will grow and not grow. The conditions are infinite recursions. If his nose requires him to be lying exclusively then nothing will ever happen. probably need a mathematician for this. It might be an impossible recursive condition, but I doubt it...

Nice paradox, but assumptions have to be made, the lies he told that made his noes grow were ones with intent to deceive someone else.

ergo he is testing a theory to see if his nose will grow :P

Since it is not meant to be a lie to deceive, his nose won't grow.

Let see, he says that, he is telling a lie, so it GROWS, but then his statement becomes true, so he told the truth, then it becomes a lie, then a true, then a lie, then true, then false ... As far as im aware pinochio's nose wont 'reverse' - so it will be continous, growing as it becomes false.

Then again, he can say it, and it will grow, however the only way for his nose to grow is to tell a lie, therefore the above will happen.

So :
It grows -> Statement become strue, nothing happens ->

Im confused now!?!?!?! :O

Well you can't evaluate the condition as it is infinitely recursive - you can not come to a definitive singular answer normally. You have to evaluate all the 'true reachable propositions' to arrive at a set of possible outcomes. So can he actually ever lie or tell the truth? Probably neither as they are not truly reachable.
