I've seen them before, and fair enough to what they say.

I just wanted to point out that a discussion involves several perspectives. Saying "don't post if you don't agree" kinda makes this topic more of a monologue than a discussion.

i.e people that dont even watch the video fully and ignore everything and then flame it.

Well Horus being identical to Jesus for instance is far from being a fact.

How can you discuss if you only have one view point? :P
That would be known as agreeing

So I shall just simply state my general disagreement, didn't you type that entire arguement in the 'Why bother arguing about God?'

Did you even watch the video yourself? First part 3:22

This is what Zeitgeist attributes to Horus:
Born 25th Dec
Born of a virgin
Star in the East
Adorned by 3 kings
Teacher at 12
Baptized/Ministry at 30
12 Disciples
Performed Miracles
Called the Lamb of God/ The Light
Crucified
Dead for 3 days
Resurrected

Now if you do any research at all into Horus you'll discover that most of these attributes are wrong. Horus was not born as a man, did no teach, did not perform miracles, was not crucified and did not resurrect. Horus was the falcon headed god of the sky whose eys were the Sun and the Moon.

There is more to it that just Horus. There is Dionysus and Mythras from which Jesus has very similar traits.

Its very simple really; here was a guy, who had travelled to India and returned and started talking to people with different ideas. Rome saw these ideas where propagating. They couldn't stop it, so they controlled it. Except to get everyone behind it they essentially merged every religion of the time. Primarily the Cult of Dionysus and the Cult of Mythras, which the legionaries where well into after their campaign in Assyria.

Thats it in a nut shell. Old Christianity died very quickly and what you have now is essentially a work of fiction by the Roman Empire. The Romans where masters of this. Every single god or saint the Romans have created in the last 2000 years, throughout Europe, are based on older local believes. Its far easier to subjugate a people if you offer them an almost exact alternative (except Roman of course).

Thats not to say the Bible is not interesting. It wasn't just the main religions that where incorporated, there were a few more mysterious occult stuff added too. But its all so convoluted that the real meanings are probably lost unless you join a mystery school yourself. The Rosicrucians are very much into the Bible, more so than the Freemasons; although neither tend to not take things at face value.

Youre right crakin-- saints in Christianity serve the same purpose as in polytheism - otherwise, why would a person be the patron of some thing or the other?
but, im confused as to what you refer to as the bible - new or old testament?

Well its difficult to say with certainty. New testament is definitely influenced by the Roman Gods/Cults of the time. The old testament however is far older and probably rewritten numerous times. There are definitely traces from Babylonian and Sumerian beliefs though, I believe.

You can't take things at face value... there is definitely interesting stuff in there. But alas admittedly the more interesting book Enoch isn't in there.

I mean its simple things, like the eden story. If what I'm told is correct, originally story goes they were tricked into NOT eating from the tree of knowledge.

I didn't mean that to sound backward or abusive to anyone it just seems by what people say that the old/new testaments seem to copy so much text and other doctrines. Can some one point out to be the oldest known teachings of religion?

Sorry I'm digging up an old topic but I've been off forums (good for health :P)

I'll only cover a few bits (badly)

Main point of Genesis: only one true God not lots of em just the one, Saints only really crop up in Catholicism as they pray to them (I really don't understand why) but I think that's redundant and makes them a bit like idols and gods almost polytheism like you say. But protestants don't do that :)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cult_of_Dionysus
Can't see at all where you're coming from on this one-not date introduced to Rome 200BC

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cult_of_Mithras
Shares virgin birth (but from some stone) nothing compelling either

EDIT: sorry I started discussing/disagreeing
