Salvation

Postby Acehole on Thu Dec 06, 2012 7:47 pm

We believe that a person is saved by God's grace alone, made possible through the shed blood of Christ, whereby He died a substitutionary death for mankind, and through the Resurrection of Christ. Salvation becomes effective when a person, by an act of faith, acknowledges Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and Lord. The benefits of this salvation include the forgiveness of sins and a new standing before God, the impartation of new life and all the privileges that accompany a new family relationship with God. The assurance of salvation as a present possession is the privilege of every believer in Christ. :D

"We" is a bit presumptive, isn't it? :P

'We' don't believe that. You might and a number of other people may, too, but all of us as a collective to necessitate 'we'? No.

On a personal note, I don't see how believing in your god saves us from a punishment that your god created for non-believers is anything other than a totalitarian dictatorship but I'm cynical like that.

Anyone else feels like this has been rammed down your throat a bit?!

I know it hasn't, it's just one paragraph but for some reason when ever I see religious statments or stuff like it, it kinda makes me angry and annoyed.

Not going to get into a debate about religions so I'll finish it how all religious debates/arguments normally end - All religions are a bunch of blind faith hypocrites.

Whatever floats your boat but keep it to yourself, I say.
I don't mind if people feel the need to believe in fairy tales but is it necessary to annoy others with it and "ram it down their throats" as Dauntless puts it so nicely?
And do I need to mention the fact that your salvation applies to murderers, rapists, child molesters and who knows what else? As long they believe, they will be forgiven, huh? That's just wrong!
You've had your last regrets, reached your final depths, deepest pits.
Stepped aside for the world to pass you by, chose to leave the fear.
You are stuck in a world of deadlocks...

I respect all religions. In return, I ask that these religions respect everyone who don't follow it. It's very simple actually.
And I didn't learn to be respectful because some book or some priest told me to. I learned it because it's just basic common sense.

Of course, rapists and murderers are an exception. No matter what they do to redeem themselves, they can freeze to death for all I care.

I don't consider a man 'saved' or 'good' because he goes to church or because he worships Jesus or God. I will consider a man good, if he truly does genuine, good things.

I wouldn't say I respect religion rather I show respect for the people who follow them, so long as I don't have to hear about it all the time.

There are still good sides to religion, but I can't see how they balance or outweigh the bad sides to it.

Also on a side note, I'm sorry if my previous post came across badly, I was still half asleep this morning :P

I, on the other hand, have absolutely no respect for religion or those who follow it.

Every moment you spend considering rubbish created by ignorant villagers hundreds/thousands of years ago is a moment you could have spent doing something useful, or just appreciating the beauty of life.

The old adage is true -
"How do you know what religion someone is?"
"Don't worry, they'll tell you soon enough."

I don't want to sound too militant with this and I'm sorry if I offend here but that view isn't very Christian. At all.

According to the bible, you can murder, cheat, steal and rape with it all being OK so long as you believe in that god. God himself in the bible condones slavery, war and rape and, seeing as he's infallible, he still condones it. Not a nice dude. Also, when Jesus talks about the ten commandments (referring to them as lesser commandments to his two new commandments of love each other as thyself and love me too) he said:

"Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." - Matthew 5:19

"If you break on of the commandments in Leviticus or Deuteronomy and/or convince others to do the same, you'll still go to heaven but it's sucky-paradise compared to super-awesome-VIP-paradise which is where you go if you keep the old laws AND believe in me. You only need to worry about going to hell if you don't believe in me or my dad."

If you don't intend to offend someone, and you know this could be offensive. Then don't post it.

And...what?

Now, how much of your salvation applies to Homosexuals, sex before marriage and, in general, many other things?
