Just of interest now really, but wonder how long it will take any UK Government to devolve powers, if ever. UK Government cannot even keep its promise on a Eu Vote, What chance is there of them actually really doing anything.
As far as Councils are concerned, they are limited by the UK Government in so many different ways, and are creamed for everything they earn and yet have stipulations enforced on them by way of useless legislation that costs the councils money. The bedroom tax is one of these, and that particular legislation has cost councils a lot of money in lost revenue, which the Government do not make an allowance for. If you care to notice, there have been a spate of roadworks going on over the past few months, with only a minimal amount of roads being repaired. This is because the Government have just released money to councils for road works, after many complaints from Conservative boroughs, fearing a backlash in the next major UK Election Vote. Don't mix up national road network with local authority roads. National Roads are funded by Government, Local by councils.
Councils in the UK are held to ransom by Government, and yet are not allowed to increase revenues, and yet have to pay central Government ever more money, whilst having to pay more out because of useless legislation.
Hardly any wonder councils want more control of tax revenue.
The supposed agenda is Scotland first, then the UK. Don't hold your breath in anticipation for either, now there is a no vote.
