Anti Virus and Ad ware

Postby Little_Devil on Tue Mar 29, 2005 2:49 pm

As I see a lot of people on the forum, having the same sort of problems.
I have decided to post this.

I know Chowrit has allready covered this in some detail( look here http://forums.uk-cstrike.net/viewtopic.php?t=2361 theres a lot of good tips), however I know some of the software (ie Ad Aware SE) has spyware of its own.

List of to do's to help clean up your PC.

1/ Download this. http://www.free-av.com/
This is a totally free anti virus program that I have found to be excellent, it even finds virus and Trojans that Nortons can not find or cure.
This will install on your computer and will auto update every 14 days, or sooner when a serious threat comes out.

2/ Download Spy ware Blaster from :
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/ and enable all.
Blocks Spy ware programs and diallers.

3/ Go here and get this anti spy ware program:

http://www.microsoft.com/athome/securit ... fault.mspx
This is far better than Ad-Aware, which leaves its own spy ware on your computer.

4/ Seeing as I don't trust MS not to be hacked, after running the MSN one, I disabled it from startup.
Heres how : Download Codestuff Starter from :
http://codestuff.mirrorz.com/.
This is pretty self explanatory and will let you not only see what programs are starting up at boot up, but allows you to disable them or even delete them from the registry. This does not show key system startups however.

After all this, run your defrag.

Hopefully that should take care of things, if not PM or MSN me and I will help you further, if I can.

I will point out that my PC(touch wood), is totally free from all ad ware and viruses at this moment in time.

OK, load up codestuff starter, and look at what programs are starting with your machine.
Let me know what is there and I can tell you what to stop.

Since you have allready downloaded AV, go onto safe mode and run the setup again.
