fx55 question

Postby FetidPolyp on Tue Apr 19, 2005 6:43 pm

just a little question:
does an fx55 require non-ecc or ecc RAM?
Pretty... What do we blow up first?

Depends on the chipset of the mother board and not the cpu.... Check the manual.

not quite true, AMD Opterons actually require registered/ecc RAM.

Think Gandolf was speaking, with reference to the FX55.

TC could probably answer this one easy enough.

A64's nor FX cpus (except FX51) can use registered/ECC RAM at all i think, the mem controller on these two class of chips can not use it. Opterons mem controller can and requires it.

so basically an FX55 can function without ecc registered RAM? I need to know cos it'll save me £150 and give me double the RAM in the process
