Graphics card issue.

Postby rmx on Thu Feb 09, 2012 7:18 pm

Not sure if anyone on here will be able to help me but I'm having a bit of a problem with my gfx card. When I boot up my pc the main fan spins for an extra second (seems tenuous but I've only noticed it since this has started happening) and the my graphics card fan will spin for 2 seconds, then stop, then spin for 2 seconds, then stop etc. until it eventually boots up and that beep sounds. However after this there is no output on either of my monitors but from what I can tell everything else works fine.

It's an 8600GT (almost older than me). Running windows XP and on an Asus M2N61-AX (generic dell inspiron issue board.

Thanks if anyone can help.

(Let me know if you need any more info).

Take out the card plug monitor direct to MB try that first, it does sound like the cards gone.

Well I was going to try that, then I realised I only have DVI cables with me and no VGA one. I thought it had gone but then yesterday I took it out for a while, literally did nothing, then put it back in and it worked as normal. However it seems to have gone again :/

It might be worth if you can to remove the heatsink from the card clean off the old thermal paste & redo also clean out the fan etc, some of types of thermal paste go hard & end up useless.

Describe the beeps, They should be long and short.

Fans always do that, maybe you have noticed because they are noisier with a lot of dust trapped in them, this throws them off balance and creates noise :)
