hi all
jsut need some help on getting 1 problem ive got at the moment with my system, my connection jsut drops and i cant connect to the internet after doing a fresh install of windows 7

ive tryed the follwoing things but had no luck at all -

Speakers/Headphones: Logtech G35 7.1 surround sound headset
Operating System: Windows XP Pro and Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on daul boot
Motherboard: AsusTek P6T SE
Computer Case: Mesh Computers Gaming Case[/list]

im thinking it could be the motherbaord thats going but not to sure cos i cant pinpoint the problem to try to fix it before i get a new motherbaord and cpu to go with it
any pointers or advice would make my headacte go would be great

Are you sure you got chipset drivers installed correctly? They also include ethernet driver.

yup got the lastest drivers installed also im cyurretly using the pc now but im online this problem taking the pee >:(

do you have a spare NIC card you could test to see if the motherboard one is physically broken then?

sounds completely like a driver issue. its unusual for an onboard nic to fail, unless damaged by force. you 'may' get a slight performance boost by using a PCi nic ofc, and they're very cheap..
there's a lot more tests than the ones you stated to test where a connection is failing too. ping, tracert etc. though i'd check proper driver installation first seeing as other pc's and consoles connect fine. like you said it can be cables or even the connectors/connection ports, assignment clashes in devices manager (usually only a prob with two similar items installed). it's always hard to see what/where problems are without more info or hands on.

going by the P >6< T SE i'd say 6 series was a good place to start. its most likely a generic answer applying to m-boards from series 3 to 6. i could be wrong, and i'm too lazy to dig through manufacturers info :wink:

check device manager and see if the driver is installed properly. follow THIS to step 4, if unsure how to check D.M.

thanks for that pointer >< also jsut tryed a USB wireless adpter which i forgot that i had >< and the connection is working fine with out the cable in but with it in no connection at all, so i gusee ill try the drivers and still no luck its diferenaly the mother bard

sounds like an ethernet issue, there's a windows 7 update for realtek lan drivers, make sure you uninstall it and then grab the one from here: http://uk.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_S ... /#download

or install the one that came on the cd with the motherboard

Most ports have an LED to show if there is a connection being established.

You should be able to boot into safe mode with a basic network connection, if this works then you may either have malware stopping the connection, or you have something like nortons firewall or some other such program blocking the connection.

It is not always a driver fault, so you should be stopping all upper level programs that may interrupt a connection first.

not sure wot happened but ive tryed installing the drivers tryed let 3 times nows but on the 3rd it works for now but connection is slow

tryed that m8 even booting up on normal boot with basic serivces running done my msconfig, now ive tryed to install the drivers 3 times and it works but a bit slow thought

If you have a connection established, then don't try any more driver changing. Have you scanned for malware ? Have you turned off all firewalls ?

yup ive got no malware
scanned my system with ESET Smart Suicity 5 + Trojan Remover , plus its went slow sincve i got the lan back up and runnin it was fine with wireless connection

damm this is doing me head in :ill:
