You really are a dabs girl arent you?

Akasa Silver Based Thermal Compound? Sounds pretty average, is there any way of ensuring thats this Artic Cooling? I'll google it after this post, but sounds good like.

I just need to find a slim procesor which works quietly and is efficent.

If your not overclocking I wouldn't spend that much on a cpu cooler, £20 mark should be more than adequate. Just make sure the cooling in your case is good and you'll be fine.

The top end heatsinks are good if you want to overclock but its a bit like driving at 30mph in a supercar, pointless. Well maybe not as pointless as that.

Queue post on long term life of CPU's running 5-10oC higher :P

I have decided to go with the ARTIC COOLER FREEZER 64 for 20 quid :)

Think thats quite a bargin, considering I am not overclocking and I just want something to cool my processor.

Another question, the thermal paste, do I put a "rice grain" sized dolop and then just stick the FREEZER 64 on top, which spreads it? Or do I have to spread it manually?

Thanks

Chavs

Yeah it looks ok chavs.

With thermal paste you want to spread a thin film of it evenly across the connecting surfaces....the surfaces are pitted so you need the paste to go in them or it won't transfer the heat properly and mayeb burnout!!

You can find lots of online tutorials for it but it's simple really.

On your processor there is a small metal plate - put 2 small drops of the paste on there then put the fan on top. The pressure of the fan will spread the compound out.

E-liar are good, as long as you order EXACTLY what you want. Don't expect easy product returns.

Artic silver 5, and I have a few tut's, plus a decent cooler will come with a tut on paste application, or the paste itself should.

Think that the the silver compound on dabs is a cheaper compound (from a spanish company) and not the Artic silver one

List of online shops and distributers for Artic silver can be found at

http://www.arcticsilver.com/dealers_and ... butors.htm

little more expensive ranges from GBP 3 - 5

Used it myself and no noticable difference between that and the coolmaster compand that came with my parts originally

although in saying that the difference is hard to detect and would be something you could notice after a long period of time
