external drive to run steam?

Hi folks, mate has a dilemma that needs answering, can he run steam from an external usb 3 HDD.

Any idea's

If you select that as the installation destination when installing Steam then yes.
But do note that the drive needs to have the same drive letter every time for Steam to work.

USB 3.0 is MORE then fast enough.

you can just set it to something that's not likely to be used, say J, and change it from the drive manager.
