Issues watching Youtube videos

Postby Flare on Tue Dec 11, 2012 1:17 pm

This is getting me really down...

I cant seem to watch long duration Youtube videos without a major hassle every 10 or so min.
What seems to happen is that it streams well enough and seems to be keeping up at a reasonable rate, then the bar that shows how far ahead the pre-load is suddenly fills up then the video will play for about a 1 min or 2 then pause... no ring, no buffering, just pause.
Pressing play has no effect on the video it just sits there, you need to change resolutions or refresh... basically get the video to start streaming again, but the same thing happens again shortly after.

I have tried :

- Disabling Hardware Accel.
- Different version of flash player including the beta
- Enabling the HTML 5 beta on and off
- Different browsers, including Chrome with its built in player
- Re-installing win 7

Its not my internet as a family member has a laptop attached to a powerline transfer connections (connect via the powerplugs) and it streams the exact same video that fails for me without issues.
I have the latest nVidia drivers, and latest Xonar drivers and the Flashplayer is set to default settings, there is also plenty of HDD space for cache and my system has 8 gigs of ram so no memory issues either.

Advise , tips or ideas welcome... thanks for reading.

I cant work out what the problem is here, and its driving me batty... try imagining watching a exciting video but a 3 year old has control over the pause button, thats roughly what its like watching Yourtube vids for me.

Is it just youtube? Or have you tried streaming from other sites? How are you connected to the Internet? Wireless or ethernet? Is cable ok? no broken connections?

Try opening command prompt and and pinging youtube.com continuously and see if its stable?

Thanks for the tip...

Using FlashPlayer 10.3 now and it seems to be working fine when I tested it on a channel that wouldnt play 10min without the pause happening.... played 48min none stop, and fully buffered the video so seeking ahead worked fine.

As I expected had the issue in work for last 6 months on various pcs with this being the issue.

My advice is to not update flash player for 6 months, till 10.5/11.1

Kind Regards,

DT.
