The g500 is a good gaming mouse for its price range, the successor to the very popular mx518... and the mx518 is a very good mouse for gaming, very responsive.
No real complaints out the mx518 and I hear the g500 is just as good.

Meet my buddy the Mionix Naos 3200.

Easily the best mouse I've ever owned so far although I haven't bothered with the software TBH. Robust, comfortable, braided cable, three colours of light, great wheel, buttons and very responsive. I used MX518's for a long time but moving to this was pretty easy.

Personally i would go for a razer mouse but that's all about personal preference. I have used both logitech and razer over the years and must admit razer come out on top.

Sorry but unless you are using it for graphic art work, you really don't need very high dpi.

I use an MX518, having previously used 2 Razer mice one after the other. First one the Sensor broke, the second a death adder had problems with weak plastic of the mouse buttons. Both broke out of warranty, and I would never buy another, given the price of them. Pretty unreliable given I have had the Logitech as long as both those, without any problems.

The Naos 3200 got the Custom PC mouse of choice award a few months ago and has been their recommendation ever since. LD is right. It is pointless having very high DPI for gaming. Naos 3200 is cheap, fits slightly larger hands very well and is a no frills, but excellent quality mouse.

The only reason I replaced mine with a G500 (Which like all logitech mice has a badly braided cable) is because my cat chewed through the wire on the Naos.
