Download Accelerators

How do they work?

I mean surely, if they are to enhance your download speeds, ISPs would have already done this by now, to make thier services appear to be more than their competitors?

Just curious!

Download accelerators work by:

Splitting the file up into several pieces and downloading each piece from a source.... i.e if a file was 10mb - 5mb would be dloaded from and 5mb would be downloaded from - and at the end they would be put together to form the complete file.

They download each 5mb from each sever simultaneously therefore accelerating the download. (you would get 10mb in the time it takes 5mb to download depending on your line speed)

TBH they were used a lot when broadband first came out and and when a lot more peeps were on 56k (i used to use DAP on 56k)
They still work pretty good but are full of advertisers and some contain nasty popups.
But I'm feeling good, And if you don't exist, you're still one illusion that I can't resist
