"Radio" Broadband

Postby Lionheart on Mon Aug 05, 2013 8:04 pm

Well it seems over the last few days, my broadband speed has dropped from 200 KB/s to between 50-100 KBs even though I have not changed any hardware.

BT aren't interested since they say my speed should be between 0.2 - 1 mb/s anyway. So at the moment it is 0.97 mb/s so apparently I should be happy (even though it's always been 1.5 MB +)

I'm seriously tempted to try out this other type of rural (i'm hardly rural...only 30 minutes from London by train...) broadband. Seems to be about £100 installation & £25-£30 a month for "up to" 20 Mbps (which would be 20x my current speed!)

Anybody experienced this tech?

"Up to" is always a pain in the butt if we're talking any kind of DSL because phone connections are anything but reliable. If you can get cable or fiber however, speeds are much much closer to advertised speeds.

What tech exactly? I was using 5GHz Wifi when I was living back in Czech Republic. It was 30mbit up and down and no problems what so ever.

To be honest, I can't find the exact tech... This is how they explain it:

Superfast Radio Broadband

Delivering High Speed Broadband using the latest Wireless Technology

With the ever growing success of Call Flow's Superfast SLU network, our network reach is expanding day by day. Our radio broadband coverage now spans across large areas of Kent and into East Sussex, providing Superfast broadband capabilities to areas where traditional methods just can't deliver. Like our SLU Broadband, Call Flow can offer speeds of up to 20Mbps to each individual broadband connection. For areas where our SLU network doesn't reach, Radio Broadband provides the perfect alternative.

A company called "Call Flow".

All the other internet providors say they can only match BTs current speed at best, since I live the furthese possible distance away from the exchange box. And they have no intentions of using fibre any time soon :(

Currently, it seems it is ADSL broadband after taking a quick look at router website page (I'm not too technical with pc hardware :) )
