Take out the 256 pc2700 and put in the 512 pc3200

So you'll have 1G pc2700 :)

He has 2 sticks of ram in TOTAL
1x pc2100 @ 256mb
1x pc3200 @ 512mb

I would say keep it as 768mb prob better wiv source, but if ya want more speed use jsut the pc3200.

for the ram to perform at its best u wud need the pc**** numbers to eb the same
havin a pc2700 and a pc3200 together will hinder more than it helps an u will most probably get the best performance out of the 512 pc3200

i had 1 stick of 128 pc2100 and 2 sticks of 512 pc3200 i put them all in an it just was goin soo slow.....took the 128 out an it was a whole new speed

More, slightly slower, RAM is better than fast RAM.

With both in you'll 'slow' the 400Mhz (pc3200) down to 333Mhz (pc2700).

Almost - more important is having RAM sticks that have the same CAS Latency. Generic/unbranded RAM have various CAS latency, so often you don't know untill you get home and check it.
