My first SSD came with one but the second didn't, which led to a late-night sprint to the shopping centre while the PC lay in pieces :)

Silly question but do Sata 3 devices on Sata 3 controllers need a corresponding Sata 3 cable?

No, there's no such thing. Although like with all cables you might see reduced quality if you go with the cheap Chinese knockoffs.

Well with one hiccup it went on and seems to be running well. I optimised it from the Samsung software which reports it using the latest firmware and ran 3dmark11 for which I have no idea what constitutes a good score but got P8072 IIRC. Now it's just a case of Update the audio drivers and then essentials to the SSD and others to the HDD.
