I've downloaded the .iso and have burned to a dvd. Am reserving judgement on whether to install a twin-boot or not. Will continue to monitor the web's appraisal over the next couple of weeks before making a decision.

If you upgrade, you can roll back to 8.1 if need be.

Used it during dev preview and it's slow, but actually works really well.

I'd rather twin boot first and ensure my Win 7 is kept away from any meddling drivers etc. Plus I would miss my Media Centre and my tv dongle would stop working :(

Heard of people having driver problems, which really is unacceptable, given the drivers in question are for things like USB connected devices and printers like HP which no longer function.

I am still in two minds whether to install or not. However on the main machine the updates won't install, so I may use the following for that machine.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... ol-install
The laptop is a different matter, but I am still wary of putting a useless O.S. on that will take time to learn.
I say useless, because every time without fail, with any MS Windows system there are always problems, with programs and devices not working.

Windows 10 is by the far the most unfinished OS they've released.

You really have to be careful updating depending on your PC usage. In my case, the mail app is terribly broken and a huge step backwards compared to the one in 8.1. I won't describe exactly how but there are at least three huge bugs which wreck the functionality.

My upgrade experience has been seamless. I can't believe how easy and painless it was, or maybe I'm getting old. I was playing Dota 2 within 10 minutes of upgrading. I hit go, a few minutes later everything worked. Sure, I've since spent a bit of time sorting things out properly since, but EVERYTHING works, exactly as it should, right from the first boot up.

I upgraded straight from 7. The only thing I did to prepare was to backup all of my important documents, photos etc. and uninstall/clean up any crap.

If you do upgrade, make sure you use disk cleanup to get rid of the old install once you know it's all gone ok.

i used my sisters laptop as a guinea pig. she always brings it to me when she has problems. i just lied, said it was borked, then asked if she fancied trying windows 10. got to say it was a pretty seamless update for me too. the only thing i noticed was i couldn't get win 10 drivers for her onboard/chip gfx. i tried installing the win 8 drivers but it kept error messaging at boot. the default drivers work ok so i left her with those.

i had a play around for a few days and everything seemed ok. i just wish windows would do a stripped version for those of us who don't want all the additional crap. it always takes an age to turn off and remove all the bloat. it's perfect for her to be spoonfed, but, i like to run only what's necessary. i also like to have control panel on my start menu, thanks...

I can't stand having a start menu, or clicking when my hands are already on the keyboard. http://executor.dk/ is awesome

Good tips at least, I wanted to update Win 10 but haven't gotten too it this or last week for a couple of reasons and am encountering more and more news making me doubt if I want to go on with this... At the moment I still think generally it is a good thing to update from 7 to 10 tho.

The recent update fixed most of the problems with the email for me.

Currently, Windows 10 isn't really doing anything for me. I'm sure there are some important things changed under the hood and the universal app development is lovely, but it doesn't really seem any different except for windowed apps.

On the negative side, the Start menu has gone back to appease the whiners, but it's apparently still not WinXP-y enough for them. The photo app is less convenient than before, and I have to close Skype via Task Manager.

The cost of progress, I suppose.

Apart from a few niggly issues/crashes and my mouse wheel going from a sensitivity of 3 to 30 every time I turn on my computer, Win10 has been a fairly easy upgrade.

I did have to go direct to Microsoft to get it tho, I never did get my "reserved" copy...

Had it for a few weeks now and so far the only major issue I had is my start menu no longer working for me. I would click the windows icon to bring it up and nothing would happen. And then Microsoft Edge stopped working and the icon disappeared as well. Eventually managed to find a way to fix it but other than that I've not had any problems with it but it did sort of make me want to go back to windows 7 if I couldn't fix it

I have it on my PC, and its fine except for a silly issue with it not finding the internet after a RESTART, but a shut down and start up sorts it out, and I only restart on a update.

My mom's old HP G72 laptop has it now, and initially it was a pain and my Mom wanted it off if it didnt get sorted soon, but after finally getting the updates on it went all smooth and my Mom is all happy with it.

Not a bad OS, I like the Start Menu as a box rather than a whole screen (ala Win 8.1) and haven't had any noticeable performance hits myself...

... oh, and no US agents been knocking on my door either

I had it about a few weeks before it stated playing up with no fixes working.... Then my key wouldn't work anymore so I had to contact Microsoft twice to get it all sorted. The only way this could be done was to wipe my entire drive and start again :( ....

Why can't Microsoft release software that works?
