I'm helping a relative out who's been ripped off over a laptop that came with no COA and whose Win7 has deactivated leading me to get called in an point out they should have had one with the machine.

I see plenty about but I know it's a dodgy area and wondered if anyone knew a reliable supplier? It's a Dell laptop for the record.

each dell laptop should have a serial number (not a COA but a laptop serial number) if you contact Dell they should be able to help out.

Worth a try but it was sold to her some years ago and not from Dell.

If it's an older Dell laptop, the cert may be under the battery.

Otherwise, Dell laptops have had their Windows licenses embedded in the BIOS for a couple of years now. You need a special OS disk from Dell that checks for the embedded license during install it but that should be relatively easy to get hold of.

I got a Win7 Pro key from http://www.windows8keysonline.com/

This lets me upgrade to Win10 pro :)

The site seems a little dodgy but the email with the key came within a day or so
