New parts! what to buy!

Postby ˜-Krom-˜ on Mon Aug 08, 2005 2:34 am

Ok, so I don't have a load of cash(like WaitNbleed!) but I've got a bit, like mid-range..
I need
1. a new case(pref. mid-tower ATX of course)
2. a new motherboard and i want to keep my current processor(socket 478 3.0ghz p4 prescott)
4. a new graphics card to fit the motherboard!

I'm american so i'm looking to spend like max 300$ or so on all the parts..
Any suggetions?? I could probably go to 400$ or so but that's it!
The wife's keeping me on a tight budget

Ohh current set up is
p4 3.0ghz, 1gb pc3200 ddr, ati 9600xt oc'd, some crappy HP minitower, and some crappy asus revision motherboard

$400 = £224.876

Now, you want to get a Graphics Card, Motherboard and case?

This is quite a lot for 225 pounds mate.

Usually, its like:

Motherboard : £60 - Probably Less
Graphics Card: £150 - 6800 GT's cost - dependant upon what you want
Motherboard: £70 - Probably less, again approximate.

But then, that was for me, when I was upgrading to a AMD 64. So I believe that it would be cheaper for yourself.

Thats a pretty good deal for just under 400 dollars.

The 6800 isn't bad, but it will be a major boost for your computer graphics wise from the 9600!

The motherboard, I amnt too sure about, but it sounds good enough. Gigabyte are quite popular :)

And finally the case, it looks good and well I guess it is good too :)

Ok well this seems to be what i may get, i've also considered using Ebay for an x800xt but it seems a little iffy, what if i get it and the shit's all destroyed? ya know.. maybe i'll just go with the plain-jane 6800, if it didn't break i'd probably continue to use it for atleast 2 more years lol

although i did really want a card with 256mb and either an XT or GT :( :(

lmao Germs
I didn't even notice that before lol that's great

Chavs, rufus, thanks for the help fellas
I know it would be a great improvment that i've never even thought possible if i do go from a 9600 to a 6800 lol
dont know why i haven't upgraded til now, just never felt the reason to
my 9600xt runs good, i mean i get like pretty decent framerates i guess, never really seen much difference in mine and my buddy's(he's got an ati x700pro)

I have baught a few off Ebay, and they have all been OK.
A lot of the ones you can get off there are from businesses and are of good quality, could be a written off stock or cheep import lot. Some even give waranties with them.

Well the reason i ask is because you can get like an x800xt for extremely cheap off ebay, like 200$!
But it's also very risky, with computer parts because what if someone's shorted something out? i guess i'd HAVE to get one with a warranty
