TF 2 Blood

Postby Unkillable Cat on Sat Sep 06, 2008 2:53 pm

Hi all, I was just watching the "frustrating moments as a spy" video and realised somthing, I dont have the blood and guts shown in the video. I bought TF 2 as part of the orange box here in England from Tesco, the box is entirely in English, its even rated by the BBFC as containing strong blood and gore so I know for a fact that I havent inadvertantly bought the german version.
In the TF 2 files I found one called low violence, will deleting this restore my copy to the full gorey version?

Is there not an option in the game to turn on blood?

I've only just built my new PC and TF2 is still downloading (I went to all the trouble of backing it up only to realise I couldn't plug the drive I backed it up on into the mobo lol), so I can't check myself.

Alternatively, it could be a detail setting that's causing it not to be displayed due to graphics performance issues (but that's assuming you have a crappy graphics card of course).

Is steam german? If so it might force low violence.

I dont have the low violence file, so try deleting it, worse that should happen is steam redownloads it :P.

I have searched really throughly and havent found any option to turn the blood on, it works for HL2 so I cant understand why TF2 is forcing it. Deleting the file just ended up with steam replacing it. It shouldnt be a graphics problem since I run the game on full detail.
Might contact valve to see what they have to say, the rubber duck and unicycle deaths are wearing a little thin.

Asking valve might help, you might have to prove you own the english game (just send a photo of the box or something if they ask).

Or try deleting the materials, particles and models folder from your Program Files\steam\steamapps\USERNAME\tf2\tf folder.

Or copy those folders from the tf2 GCFs (not low violence) into the tf2\tf folder. (you'll need GCFScape and possibly some patience) .

Incase the low violence bug comes up again here is the official fix, it worked for me:

Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

Please exit Steam, then go to the C:\Program Files\Steam directory (this is the default with a Steam installation - if you set a different installation directory, you will need to browse to it), and delete all of the files except for:

Steam.exe

And the folder:

\SteamApps\

Restart your computer and test the issue.

Please let us know if you have further questions or concerns.

yeah I was getting no blood and when people exploded they ejected rubber ducks, springs, gears, burgers and unicycles. Now its fixed they bleed, spray blood up the wall, and you get body parts flying about, the blood is useful for showing when you hit as a heavy or sniper.

It was worse than the German TF2, atleast they get sprays of oil instead of blood, I diddnt even get that.
I diddnt think to take any screen shots but I have found a couple of them that someone else took:
