problems with EA RTS games

Well basicly i decided to install LOTR:BFME2 again. Installed perfectly, but when launching the game i get an error which is related to the Game.dat file.

Now i've contacted EA games a few times through email, but they only give standard replies which dont help me.

Today i decided to try an different RTS from EA games, it gave me an Memory can not be written error, and guess what, its related to Game.dat. (C&C Generals - Zero Hour)

I've run memtest and had no errors or faults in my ram so that can't be the problem (tried it with different ram aswell (different brand and size)

I've been browsing around on the internet for a few days now, and it seems a lot of people are having this problem. even EA games stated (2 years ago) that 75% of the people that bought their games had an error like that (which is on their forums).

pc specs:
Intel C2D E6850 @ 3.4ghz
8800GT OC'd
2048 Kingston HyperX
Asus P5N-D

gave them my Direct X diag and they couldnt find a fault in that either

Does anyone have an solution for this problem ?

Yeah I've had it. Was actually installing the same game - LotR - BFME and got stuck at the same file.
Only solution as I know is to repeatadly click the retry button. Worked for someone.

Also are you on vista? About 6 months earlier I installed the same game with the same disc on a XP comuter, worked great.

Nope on Windows XP, and it installs fine, just when i try to start it at the screen u get passed the screen where it loads the cd (u get bassicly 2 the same screens only the last one is bigger) it crashes there and gives the error

btw im on Service Pack 3 + all updates installed

I've noticed that when i recieve the error after i press ok when it shows up in a diagnose, it shows an Runtime error C++

Now i've been looking around on the microsoft website but that didnt really help me.

Also tried to play around with the compatibility modes, and when i put them on windows 95/98 or 2000 they say that i need the cd. even tho its in the drive. But it doesn't give that error on when its turned off.

Also i did read somewhere that it might help if u set the compatibility mode on Windows XP Service pack 2 (or 3 i think)
yet it isn't in my drop down list. does anyone know how to enable it ?

i think thats a vista compat mode.

try downloading a crack for the game and running it in windows 2000 mode. either or both.

Is your CPU OC'd? Try underclocking a tad if it is and see if you get the same results

but still having the exact same error with LOTR:BFME2

Dangling pointer causes memory leak :P

Basically someone wrote some code that addressed memory via an MS dll (probably) which then becomes a pointer to an unallocated address and borks the program start. Probably ok with the original dll, but then MS in their wisdom, change the dll which borks the program.

This is probably why retry works eventually, being hit and miss for address space. :P

Solution,
1/ retrograde your computer to something akin to a machine that was around when the game was released.
2./ keep trying, suggestion, shave your head before you start, saves having you tear it out :P
3./ Throw a wobbly and smash various things up
4./ Sell the damned game to some unsuspecting person
5/ Vow never to buy another EA game until they fix it :P

nice got a free game from EA. it only took me 23 emails, 6 phone calls and 5 keyboards to finaly made them help me properly.

i must have had 6 emails of them asking for my dxdiag
4 emails asking my pc specs
5 emails asking if had an emulator on
4 emails asking if i had an firewall active
and the last few emails they finaly started to stop using macro's and actually help me

oh wait, no they sended me to microsoft cause apperntly according to them it was an Windows XP malfunction.
so the last 2 emails i finaly was able to convince them to give me a new game.

moral of the story. EA COSTUMER SUPPORT SUCKS !

EA CUSTOMER SUPPORT is terrible

I bought a brand new BF2 with all the add on packs and my CD Key didnt work

12 emails and they have never resolved the problem....
