Tomb Raider Underworld smoothness issue

Postby Bobtastimo on Wed Mar 25, 2009 4:09 pm

I'm having some issues with Tomb Raider Underworld.
I cannot for the life of me get it to run smoothly.
I'm suffering from delays between key presses and mouse movements, and the responses to them on screen.

I've tried turning all of the visual effects down to their lowest settings (or off all together),
and running it in it's lowest resolution, but am still having the problem.

The laptop I'm running the game on is a Sumsung R510 with the following statistics:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Operating System: Windows Vistaâ„¢ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6001) Service Pack 1 (6001.vistasp1_gdr.080917-1612)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD.
System Model: R510/P510
BIOS: 2S Phoenix SecureCore(tm) NB Version 03LI.MP00.20080730.SCY
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T5750 @ 2.00GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHz
Memory: 3032MB RAM
Page File: 1582MB used, 4701MB available
DirectX Version: DirectX 10

Graphics Card: Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family
Display Memory: 1292 MB
Dedicated Memory: 32 MB
Shared Memory: 1260 MB
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I remember when Tomb Raider Legend was first released I had some similar issues with it on my dual-core desktop, and a friend of mine set the game to only use one of the two cores, which seemed to sort out the problem somewhat. But I cannot remember how he did this.

I'd much appreciate any ideas that anyone has.

EDIT - I've now tried setting the game to only use one of the two cores, and it's not helped much. So any other ideas would be good :)

Your graphics card (laptop) cant run it, its too much for it. Setting everything to the absoulte minimum will help, but may not be enough.

Best thing is to play it on a better PC or something.

Ah well. The best I can manage is to set all the visual stuff to minimum, and turn the resolution right down.

It's kind of funny because it's my girlfriend's game/system and she traded in the Wii version of the game in favour of the PC one so that she could have better looking graphics.
Although it seems that the Wii version is a simplified (dumbed down) version of the PC game anyway, so it's still a slight improvement.
