ctf_doublecross performance issue

Postby Wombat on Mon Feb 22, 2010 9:29 am

Hey Guys,

I have a problem playing ctf_doublecross. I really like the map, but I get a steady 12 fps.... This means stuttering gameplay all the time, making the map unplayable.

Every other map runs fine. I don't have a high-spec machine, but it does the job. Is there anything special about doublecross? Are there some form of special config settings I might need to change / switch off?

Come to think of it, the dustbowl night version doesn't run that smooth either. It could be something with the night-time maps. Are certain features more heavily used in night-time maps?

thanks for any help!

try switching off bumpmapping

mat_bumpmap 0

you made need to use mat_specular 0 aswell or you end up with shiny objects.

This may or may not work for TF2 however, and certain objects may look odd most particularly ubers.

What CPU/RAM/GPU/OS do you have?

It could well be that those maps have some sort of specific multicore enhancement (or requirement, intentional or not) and with your single core its struggling, or some sort of specific graphical enhancement, visible or not, or intentional or not.

Are there other night time maps you can try, only plr_pipeline comes to mind.
I do recommend upgrading, £600 or so can get you a good machine (without OS, inc screen), you'll be amazed at the difference it would make for TF2 and everything else.

You can also try mat_dxlevel 80 or 81

again this is a visual tweak

I don't remember having issues with Pipeline actually. I'm on dxlevel 80 already.

I know an upgrade is highly advisable, although I'm usually not prepared to spend that kind of money on PC stuff. Will think about that option too, though.

thanks for the help!
