A How To Guide to making custom sprays and videos.

...Making custom sprays:-

First of all download Half Life Logo Creator (Link provided)

Install and run, it may ask for your hl.exe - you can locate it if you want, but it doesnt matter to be honest.

Okay, open the required picture in HLC, whack autoresize and then click the "Save it to" box and select desktop or the appropriate directory for steam... My particular one is "D:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\Your@email.com\counter-strike\cstrike" once you have done this - make sure the file is called "tempdecal.wad" and ensure that its readonly - then Steam cant overwrite it!

Click the "Make WAD" button and you are all done!!

Note: If you want transparent bits - then use pure blue as colour - i think the hex is #0000FF (RGB)

Hope this helped...

Tom

...Making CS videos.

First of all record a demo from your console by typing:-
Code: Select all
record <demoname>

Once you have finished recording your demo type in the console:-
Code: Select all
stop

Okay... now u have a demo in your cstrike directory all being well...
You need to get the SK player which is available from UKCS website -> http://www.uk-cstrike.net/SKPlayer-1.1.zip
Install this and then locate your hl executable, should be somewhere like this "D:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\Your@email.com\counter-strike"
Once u have this find your demo and check the "startmovie" box...
When your console is down it wont record the demo to pictures... when it is up it makes lots of pictures to your halflife directory. You will notice a difference in speed - its quicktime when it isnt recording, and slows right down when it is recording!
Now you have this u need a program called videomach; this program allows you to convert the bitmap images into avi you can find it here -> http://www.videomach.com/videomach-3.1.1.exe
Once you have installed videomach you need to open the bitmap sequence you have just made using SKPlayer.
Once you have done this you should have a list of all the pictures come up which you can then cut out and edit as you wish.
After this you want to choose the file output settings, I personally use uncompressed video at this stage, and dont bother with the audio - I will get to why later.
Once you have selected the output settings can chosen where to save it you can then start processing those bitmaps in order to change them into a video.
By now you will have a few videos and want to add some cool effects and music - for this I use windows movie maker - which is a free program that comes with WinXP and really easy to use.
Open all your required videos, music and screenshots then compile them together using different transitions and effects - now you should have one kicks ass movie!!

Hope this helped...

...Binding some crazy stuff:-

Okay easiest way to do this is get into your cstrike directory; "D:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\your@email.com\counter-strike\cstrike" or something similar. Once you are here you will find a file called config.cfg - you can open this with notepad.

Once you are there you can bind weapons, demo recording scripts, team say messages and other random crap.

Here is an example of some of my binds.

Code: Select all
bind "j" "mp5"
bind "k" "vesthelm; vest"
bind "l" "m4a1; ak47"
bind "m" "chooseteam"
bind "o" "awp"
bind "p" "hegren; flash; defuser"
bind "v" "say_team **Be quiet** - Please only use microphone chat when essential"
bind "F3" "record demo1"
bind "F4" "record demo2"
bind "F5" "record demo3"
bind "F6" "record demo4"
bind "F7" "record demo5"
bind "F8" "record demo6"
bind "F9" "record demo7"
bind "F10" "stop"
bind "F12" "snapshot"
bind "MOUSE5" "weapon_flashbang; say_team Throwing FB take cover"

You can bind other things from the list below

Rifles
galil
ak47
scout
sg552
awp
g3sg1
famas
m4a1
aug
sg550

Pistols
glock
usp
p228
deagle
elites
fn57

Submachine Guns
mac10
tmp
mp5
ump45
p90

Shotguns
m3
xm1014
Machine Gun
m249

Equipment
vest
vesthelm
flash
hegren
sgren
nvgs
defuser
shield

Ammo
primammo
secammo

Hope this helped...

For the config.....you may wish to make a new config file called userconfig as the config file can be changed by CS meaning you'll lose your binds!

So copy your existing config file (adding any binds, aliases & scripts you wish) and name it userconfig....the add 'exec userconfig' at the end of your config file (this will then load up your userconfig settings when you launch CS).

:D

yeah u could do that but i prefer to get a working config file and keep it then make any new changes to the userconfig file. so if it all messes up u just need to remove the 'exec userconfig' command from config and it's all good.

Have you made absolutely sure its in the right folder and that this file is set to read only? If you havent redo this again as CS would of overwritten this file.

tbh theres not much you can do there
from goin from a nice pic 800x600 and makeing it to 64x64 you are not goin to keep it as good looking as you'd like
the best thing you can try and do is get pant shop pro
so when your resizeing it for a nice high pixl to a small 1 you can try and keep in lookin abit nice lol

all so from 32biy colour to 256 colour is goin to make the pic look poo as well

so the best thing to try and do is find nice pic that are 64x64 and in 256 mode lol

all the sprays have to be

64x64
128x128
256x256

and you can save them as bpm'jpg'

or here is another way of doing it as animated

you will need the animated texture converter which you can find here:
http://empolix.kzoceana.com/ANiMATED.TE ... SMiDDY.rar

1. choose an animated picture you want to convert.
2. convert the gif to individual frames. the way i did this with a .gif is to get Adobe ImageReady (comes with photoshop cs) and open the .gif in there, then do file > export > animation frames as files...

i saved them to jpgs, then went to photoshop, and converted them one by one to 32 bit .tgas
3. put all your .tgas in the hl2/materialsrc/animated folder and rename them to spray001.tga spray002.tga spray003.tga etc
4. edit the spray.txt file in notepad and replace the endframe value to the amount of frames you have
5. run convert.bat - your .vtf will appear at hl2/materials/animated/
5a. if your .vtf file is over 120kb, you will have to go back and edit the amount of frames you have of the size of your frames until they are under 120kb, otherwise you will not be able to use the spray.
6. put your .vtf file into counter-strike source\cstrike\materials\VGUI\logos
7. in notepad make a new file and put in this text

Code: Select all
"LightmappedGeneric"
{
   "$basetexture" "vgui\logos\gabedance"
   "$decal" "1"
   "$decalscale" "1"

}

then save it as spray.vmt in the same dir as you saved the .vtf
8. you're done :D

ehem, i suggest photoshop, because paint shop pro doesnt support tga files, you will need a tga if you want the quality to be high. go to the tutorials on hl2world and go to misc for all the instructions and there is also a file you need to turn the tga into vmt and vtf
