PS3 Yellow Light...

Postby MittinsKittens on Fri Sep 17, 2010 3:03 pm

So, my (60GB) PS3 has finally given up and has decided to Yellow Light Of Death on me.
Now, Problem is, Its out of war rent for the manufacture warrant and the 2 year extended warranty I brought (its coming up its 3rd year in a week or two).
What's the best way to get it fixed, And how reliable are they after they are fixed, since if they suck for reliability after the first time, I might sell it after I fix it (since 60gb versions are highly sought after) or something :x
So yeah...What would be my best course of action to try and get this thing fixed seeing as Sony want over £100 from me to fix it :/
Edit:- Woops...Completely wrong Thread for this... Could a mod move if its shockingly inappropriately placed :<

Depends what the hardware failure is, could be pretty easy to fix something like the Blu-ray drive. Any ideas what caused it?

For the xbox, there are plenty of DIY fixes - best to google the problem and see what comes up.

Forget the problem now, I'm just going to buy a PS3 Slim and just sell my YLOD'd PS3 on Ebay, Seeing as its a 60gb version someone will want it regardless of its state, and seeing I've seen YLOD'd PS3's go for £70+ on Ebay, that is my most pain free way of dealing with it :D

Was going to format that down my mates, if you put it in another PS3 it formats it. Although change of plan, CBA with it all, Just going to keep it in the attic for no real reason.
Proud owner of a PS3 slim now though ;D

Having just succumbed myself to the YLOD Ive discovered if you can prove to Sony that the fault is due to a mechanical fault not caused by misuse you are entitled to compensation under the Sale of Goods Act 1994 (between 6 months and six years of purchase).

The hdd deletes itself once the ylod. I had the same problem, bought a 60gb of ebay, it lasted a month. I bought a repair kit (£2.99 i think) which didnt fix it the first time but the second time it worked. I only had enough time to get the disc out tho which was a bummer :(. Imo, just sell it.

SSS: The sale of faulty goods act also has a nice loophole: 'within a reasonable period of time'. In this case their warranty period would probably be considered the reasonable period.

Doesnt that depend on perception of time? It feels like only yesterday when I purchased mine and not 4 years :)
