[TV] Dexter

Postby La Chavvy on Thu Dec 18, 2008 2:15 pm

There appears to be a complete lack of thread-action for this TV show. For those that haven't see it it's about a guy named Dexter Morgan who is a serial killer, not just a normal one, he only targets other killers to 'clean' the world. During the day he works as a blood spatter analyst for the Miami Police Deparment.

It's similar to 24 in a sense that each episode has suspense, action and the characters are well developed. Yet it's not got the same action, but still keeps you engaged. I'm suprised no-one's mentioned anything because it really is a fantastic show. Better than the current Prison Break, Heroes and probably lost - though I stopped watching that after season 2.

It's just about finished the third season in America and I think it's about to be shown on FX very soon in the UK. If you haven't watched it, watch it. :)

There was a thread on Dexter somewhere... I think.
Its been mentioned at least.
But it is indeed the best TV series going.
Season 1 was near perfection, season 2 was pretty good too, and season 3 was perhaps a little slower (less suspense imo) but great all the same.
Everyone defo needs to watch it.

Not sure when its coming to the UK, but season 3 should be arriving very soon to FX. I'm on episode 10/12 of season 3 and it's truly epic. Ah I need to watch the rest like nowah.

Season 3 sucked in comparison to the first 2. Season 1 and 2 where elegant in their development and suspense. Season 3 is just turned it into a run of the mill US drama. Evidently the screenplay writers diverged from the books (first 2 Seasons are essentially taken directly from the first 2 books) and their ineptitude for writing is clear; wtf is the point in hiring unimaginative and untalented writers?

Dexter is awesome, but mostly anything with psychopatic serial killers in it is going to be awesome (i'm a little twisted). The third season was indeed weaker than the first two and it's exactly because of what CrakinShot said: they used other writers, but considering the alternative it was the best option. The first two books were great and critically aclaimed. The third one not so much. It deals with a lot of paranormal stuff, cults etc. It reveals Dexter's Dark Passenger to be some mythical godlike creature. The producers probably realised that if they take the show in that direction they can't turn back. I'm glad they decided to go the way they did.

Later Edit: Apparrently the fourth book has come out and the good news is that the writer dropped the Dark Passenger paranormal gimmick and the book has received very good reviews. The fourth season is probably all planned out so most likely it won't be based on the book, but the 5th season(which has already been announced) probably will.

Dexter is one of the Best TV Drama Series i have seen in a long time. It's really good how this 1 person is a Serial Killer and works for the Police - His child hood was messed up and ever since he was downed in sorrows, but then got adopted. His Fake dad taught him how to survive, Dexter wasn't like other people, he just loved to kill, but his Dad taught him to Kill the ones that needed to be Killed. He taught him how to blend in like the rest. His fake sister doesn't know who he is, his fake dad taught him to not tell anyone his true identity no matter what.

I give Dexter 10/10 as scenes in Dexter set me on the edge of my seat, it was fantastic how every episode built up into a excitement for the next episode. if you haven't seen this TV Show, you should buy it on DvD its definitely worth the money. It's like no other crime drama you've seen before, trust me.

(PS. MODS YOU CAN DELETE THAT THREAD I MADE ABOUT DEXTER LOL - I DIDN'T SEE THIS, MY BAD)

I was thinking the same thing when a friend brought over the first episodes of Season 3 - It feels much more scripted and tbh, I'm getting tired of the new characters.

Speaking of atrocities - Dexter: The Game

idd, i was quite disappointed by series 3, the writing in it just wasnt up to scratch - but i guess thats to be expected with the writers strike and all that. Fingers crossed for a better 4th series tho!

Bit disappointed with season 3 so far, but I think they needed to have it like that to add more seasons on as yeah it didn't reach the standards with 1-2 but it added more people into it to make it more of a TV Show. Hopefully Season 4 will be the sex!
