I don't know. It finally simplified things a little although I don't think most of the surviving characters have moved much this season. Sadly, the writers (or possibly the big guy himself) used their 'betrayed by someone they should have killed' card three times in one episode.

I think it could have been better. It definitely didn't feel like it was a finale and I would have liked more than just a ten minute peek into every storyline they have going on right now. I get it, they want cliffhangers to make people want more and for them to tune in next season but there was no resolution. EVERYTHING was left hanging. Every plot thread they tied up could be explained in one sentence with the exception of what's happening in Mereen.

"...But we don't enjoy aren-"
"SHUT UP AND ENJOY YOUR ARENA!"

This season was very shaky overall. Certainly the worst season by far, but I didn't hate it like some do. Seeing so much online rage from book readers is actually a little funny.

I do think though if it weren't for the Hardhome scene and the Tyrion & Jorah/Tyrion & Dany scenes I'd be much more disappointed in this season.

I think the biggest problem is just having too many plots to juggle. It seemed like the writers wanted to rap up/hurry along a few of the storylines so they could focus elsewhere next season, but if that's true we could have done with less Arya scrubbing dead bodies/Cersei must confess scenes, I get the importance of those scenes, but they should have been trimmed down. The Dorne stuff as well was really crap, just to ultimately introduce a few characters and trigger a feud with Dorne.

That said I did like the stuff with Stannis. It was a bit ham-fisted at points but overall it felt like he had a nice complete character arc.

I'm convinced Jon will be back though, along with Theon & Sansa.

I fully expect to see a zombie Jon Snow in the next season. Also more Stannis.

Mixed bag for me in the finale.

Jon Snow I saw coming, Stannis etc. For me the most interesting character right now is Cersei Lannister as a mix of a realistic but ultimately incredibly strong woman capable of making severe errors in judgement and suffering anything to achieve her ends. She made a huge mistake but so does everyone in their life although not all survive against the odds. Re-watch her walk and imagine every face being stored away for later, every humiliation being remembered and know that the High Sparrows death will be truly memorable. His mistake was not killing her. Jonathan Pryce really plays a believable repulsive fanatic but by now you know what happens to well known actors in this show. Ser Robert Strong may squeeze his head off it's shoulders.

BTW. Dear BBC website and Yahoo news website. A big thank you for trying so hard to fucking spoil it for everyone.

As I'm sure you've already heard, there are things in the books which aren't in the series and things in the series which haven't been explored in the books yet. Season 5 diverged from the books in a few places, too.

I found the amount of gore to be fairly average but, saying that, I'm not that squeamish. Not exactly Red Viper levels in this episode :P

Yes. Yes it was. Still can't decide if I'm happy with how it ended, though.

I really enjoyed it.

Girlfriend wasn't a fan because "nothing happened" and "it only revealed to us things we knew already".

I mean, I guess she's kind of right but you can never know anything for sure in this show unless they show it. There's also always at least one episode in a season where it's more backstory/plot advancement more than crazy new things happening to throw a spanner in the works.

I think I wasn't ready for a plot heavy so I will actually go back and watch it again tonight with my brain in plot mode instead of just waiting for the gore.

More balance between plot and action with a very memorable ending.

Also I think a certain Wildling (Tormund?) fancies himself some big lady knight with all the looks he kept shooting Brienne. I almost wondered if people had forgotten Daenerys isn't just a pretty face but that ended reminded them if they did.

If I don't see more Tormund and Brienne in this episode, I'm going to riot.
