[TV] Constantine

Attempting to do a more faithful adaptation than the Keanu Reeves film this has just started on Amazon Prime.

I don't know the source material myself but I enjoyed the first episode. Be aware the ciggies are gone and no bisexuality either. The look is pretty good and it's not short of action either.

I thought the episode overall was pretty good, and I'm hopeful the show could really turn into something great. I have to say I was unconvinced by the lead actor when I saw the trailer a while back, but he seemed to do a good job.

Minor Spoiler:

I heard the woman in the first episode was meant to be Constantine's female side-kick but proved unpopular in the pilot's screenings so they replaced the character for future episodes and re-shot the ending of the first episode (which was a really smart re-shoot if I'm honest)

I'm not sure what to make of this after one ep. Really glad that it didn't screw around and got right into things but I can't tell if I like the lead

It's started back up again and is proving nice gory stuff. Definitely on my regular watch list.

I watched 3 and stopped, the acting is so bad =\

Did it improve at all?

I found the acting to be pretty good. They certainly delve more into the character of Constantine more after the point you stopped watching (although his accent is still a tad inconsistent)

while i enjoyed the show it was frought with problems.
the lead female character switching after the first episode was bad. there were too many filler episodes where the story arc had no relevence. its enjoyable but i dont understand why they did a lot of the plots.

from what i gather it didnt get renewed on that network but the producers are trying to find new sponsors.

From what I understand (although I haven't checked since the series ended) they weren't automatically renewed for a second season on the same network but are/were in the process of trying to.

I thought changing the female lead after the first episode was a little jarring but that and the different episodes not necessarily falling into the overarching plot is how it often played out in the comics. I'd say the main issue it had was it suffered from Season One Syndrome; it had to draw people in, keep them, acclimatise them to the world, keep as much from the source material as possible to keep the fans happy but not throw in anything too obscure or complex that new viewers wouldn't understand it, write the theme tune, sing the theme tune...

It would be a shame when you consider the utter shite that gets series after series in the US. Maybe Amazon would consider taking it up.

there may be some legs in that. they are even using a clip from the show, which i'm sure you've noticed, in the amazon prime tv ads.

Has there been any word on this getting a second season or is it completely dead in the water?
