Comfortable win vs a pretty dire new zealand team.

Just thought I'd put a quick notice in here that Jane McGrath has lost her fight with cancer. RIP.

Followed the text commentary from work, but I'll be watching all day on TV tomorrow weather permitting :)

Seems the South Africans just haven't turned up yet, I think they'll improve as the series progresses and England really should take this opportunity whilst they can.

yeah. england are obviously in control of the game but need the weather to improve a bit to avoid losing time out of the game.

hopefully anderson and sidebottom can get the ball to swing. sadly i think monty will struggle due to the slow nature of the wicket, it may turn later on in the game though.

as for the series? its too early to tell. SA will get better though.

felt sorry for bell and really pleased for broad.

a day of sun could make the game really interesting - bringing monty into the game.

the SA attack did look very lackluster bar steyn and morkal(sp?)Kallis cant be relied on to take wickets, just to block up an end, Ntini time is up really and harris looked like a pretty second rate spinner. all of which is a big bonus to england, and i think they have a genuine chance of winning this series as i cant see that attack taking 20 wickets.

im gonna try and head down on monday if it goes the distance.

seems i underestimated england just as smith did,

i wouldnt go as far to say ntini is finished, watch the rest of the series and then make the judgement, the only reason harris is playing is because we dont have any other spinners that are good enough and smith felt that they needed one spinner, hence why nel was left out.

i sit here typing this as sa bring up 200 and cant help but feel a little bored, i miss gibbs as he brings excitement to the south african team as much as kallis does when he is on form

i cant help but feel we need pollock back

aye ur attack looks weak. it could have been the dire slow lords pitch but it just lacked a punch.

Tomorrow could be a really good day and i think england can do it, im gonna go down and watch it.

henderson nearly choked and joyce must of been crapping himself after he dropped kemp.

it was an epic match, shah's innings was insane one of the best games of 20/20 cricket ive seen for a long time!

Michael Vaughan and Paul Collingwood have both resigned from their respective jobs as captains of England.

Bit of a shock I reckon, anyone else have any thoughts on this?

it was time for vaughan to go, even though he is awesome.

naming pieterson is a mistake though. strauss should be test skipper.

I'm happy enough for Pieterson to do it, but I want to see the team change it's style to match his.

Also surely it's time for the selectors to actually start doing a decent job??

the selectors have been doing their job. people seem to have very short memories. if you think back to the atherton era england were picking a different team every week. we do not want that.

all of the batsmen in that england team are test class (collingwood being the weak link). but they have not been batting as they can.

its no good everyone adopting KP's batting/playing style either, there is only one KP for a very good reason.

England need to start fulfilling their potential by providing some consistent performances. this comes through consistency of selection (which we have had for years and must keep) and strong leadership/team ethos (as we had with vaughan).

I see KP doing well in the short term but it will all go tits up next summer. he is too much of an individual, too much of a maverick and too south african to be england captain :?

Australia are by no means a bad team but they have lost gilchrist warne and mcgrath, if england can play half as well as they did in 2005 they can retain the ashes. sadly they are a long way off at the moment.

Retain the ashes....I haven't laughed that hard in a while...

Anyway, I see what you mean, consistency is important. But turning the team into an exclusive club that's impossible to do wrong in is a little far in my opinion. Also, I would hardly call Pattinson a 'consistent' choice, since I think you'd make fairly good money on a bet or him to never add to his single cap.

Kumble retired (like a week ago), but still...I guess England will be breathing a sigh of relief
