Formula 1 2010: Weekly Review

Postby devo on Sun Jan 31, 2010 5:16 pm

Seeing as testing starts tomorrow, and 4 teams have now announced their cars, I figured I'd start a topic for the new season. Not a fan of long posts so I'll just gives to the drivers / tracks:

Teams & drivers: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsp ... efault.stm
Tracks: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsp ... efault.stm

Car launch galleries:

To get some debate, what are everyones thoughts on the shark fin engine covers? Seems everyone is using them except Ferrari who, according to rumours, are having some serious second thoughts about their car.

Also appears we could be having another diffuser debate with Ferrari still questioning their legality and McLaren saying they have an "extreme" version (some rumours say it's a triple diffuser) which they conveniently covered up during their launch :P

it is going to be an interesting season since refueling has been banned. im not a fan of that as i think its taking the fast laps out of the middle of the race but cant do much a bout that now! More...

Points have now been extent as there are 26 drivers taking part this year, the winnner gets more points and the top 10 drivers get points (I THINK!)

Also bahrain and Silverstone are busy redesigning there tracks to make it more interesting, hopefully it wont turn out to be a total flop!

i am really looking forward to the return of the Canadian GP, such a great track, even tho they have changed it many a time!

Should be a good season, im hoping more headlines about the racing than the off track lawyers conventions!!!!!
You think your safe, until you turn a corner i see a massive rocket heading straight for you.........what do you do???

Schumacher was third fastest in the first test of the year, and lots quicker than his team mate.

Seems like he's still got it..

New Points System is:
25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1

At the moment Ferrari are fastest with BMW Sauber second quickest

Do you think that the new points system will work well? It's kinda more like moto gp.

I like the look of the new system as it will encourage more people racing for the victory hopefully.

Having the first 10 get points will also help the lesser teams and will hopefully keep interests high. :)

hopefully it will mean that towards the end of a race the cars and drivers wont slow up to keep the car stable etc, hopefully they will race to the flag! and also lighter fuel loads at the end will make it interesting!!

Hmm i wonder how many people will run out of fuel in the first gp?!

Ferrari's are definately fast this year, as are -suprisingly- the saubers. could they pull of a brawn? would be funny but good for the sport to see 2 "new" teams win.

Love the look of the virgin racing car, completely designed on PC that should be interesting to see how they compare to the others.

USF1, Campos and Manor all to release their cars. wonder if they are going to pull any suprises out. A lot of people have been slating USF1 already which I think is a bit harsh.

but I already have the "F1 fever" and am constantly lurking on various formula1 sites and now 38 days to go till first race. I already have the willies! :(

Ferrari's do look fast but it's a lot harder to say this year, the range of fuel loads is a lot greater and teams no doubt will have their own idea of how much fuel to carry. There is also the factor of fuel efficiency - Ferrari's engine is one of the worst in terms of efficiency and so they'll need more fuel = more weight = slower car. Then again, there is some modifications allowed to help with efficiency so they may sort that out before the racing starts.

Brawn only succeeded because Honda bankrolled almost an entire years development (the 2008 season) knowing that more time spent would reap the rewards. I highly doubt anyone will be able to repeat it because the change in regulations isn't as great and no will spend that time (or money) on something other than the current season.

I think the US F1 slating is down to lack of driver announcements and I think it was them who asked to skip a few races at the start which can't be a good sign.

i sure hope the saubers are going to kick ass, it was pretty disappointing to see them go so slow last year.

anybody else find sunday's race very...

boring?

maybe its because it was a long track, but i dont like the fact that they stopped fuel stops, means that the whole thing seems a lot slower. the anticipation of whether they will make it after a fuel stop just isnt there.

I agree and so did most of the drivers. Boring race as there was no chance to over take once the race was under way.

I have a bad feeling about this season :( hoping the no refuelling doesn't spoil things too much.

As I've said in several places, the F1 was so boring and monotonous, I feel there were more passes for the lead in the IndyCar race in Brazil, than there were throughout the entire field in the F1.

It kinda hurts me to say this, but...:
