Indeed, nasty injury, hope he recovers soon as on form he's great to watch.

The cynic in me was interested to see how high his pain threshold is compared to when someone breathes on him in the box though... :P

(Not a dig just against Rooney, footballers in general really need to take a look at themselves...)

Squirtle showed both sides of his game there *facepalm*

City's new formation really isn't doing them any favours.

Really awful display from Newcastle today. Villa are utter rubbish and they still made us look bad in parts.

Even if RVP scored a hattrick and we won 2-3, that was the worst match ive seen in a long time, worse than the Basel exit from CL last year. Really hope the lads step up to it the next games, very little worked till Scholes was pulled off the bench, so much lack of speed everywhere.. and a horrible defensive situation with Rafael, Evra and Ferdinand all underperforming greatly.

Thank god for RVP!

I think United are taking the passing game too seriously. It's like, watching them, that everyone who is on the ball expects someone else to score the goal, so they just pas sit back and fourth and eventually lose possession. Did Carrick, Cleverly or Valencia even look like they were going to strike the ball? It leads to an awfully predictable attack plan, and one that's easily broken down once the interception/tackle is made on a certain few players who'll always be given the pass.

I agree, thats how it was today, Carrick is not a man i usually expect to set up anyone or himself offensively his values are placed elsewhere on the pitch, but Valencia didnt display anything remotely close to his form last season, I really dont know what it was but it did seem like noone wanted to take a chance for a long time or were slacking in their passes. Cleverly and Kagawa both did well for the first 15 mins time, seeking empty space and ball possesion, but they didnt turn it in to many chances and most of the time failed the pass or seemed to fall at the slightest physical contact with an opponent.. its really sad cause it looks like Rooney and Scholes has to carry the rest of the team with their keen eye for passing and possitioning, plus the routine and strength to keep the ball. To early to make any conclussions though, but doesnt look promissing so far

Its like they're holding back for no reason what so ever, glad RVP could secure points though in a match we didnt deserve to win.

Don't know what RVP was thinking with his soft penalty- If he buried it, that hack of a Keeper Davis wouldn't of had a chance! And I don't rate Fonte at all for a central defender.

Don't know how Southampton got up from the championship with Fonte and Hooiveld as their CB partnership, terrible the pair of them.

Still it has a decent skill level required, they're more at the League 1 level!

I'm more shocked/disappointed with Southampton's home league attendances.

Empty seats in their first game in the top flight in years, and then yesterday against a big team too.

Shocking support.

RVP said he had a change of mind when taking the penalty he was going to smash it but when he was running up he noticed the keeper was diving the same way so tried being clever about it
