Got to 20, did a dungeon with some guild mates from a guild I just joined (nice small guild with few players and no hardcore raiders...yet).

Dungeon was a tank and spank affair but to be fair the one guildie was level 31, and it is a level 20 dungeon so it was more a tour for me and the other member (level 20 slayer I think... or Beserker).
Healing as a Mystic is a bit odd, have a pet who can heal for 7 secs, or a 2 target direct heal but you have to manually mouse over the 2 targets ... can be a bit hairy when a huge boss is tossing players about the place.... oh and failing all that, a Mystic can conjure up a ball that others can 'eat' to heal up.
I didnt like the rushed tour though, didnt get to see much or even understand the dungeon... just running after the arse of the warrior as she went from mob to mob.

The mob AI surprised me a bit in the open world , saw hyena mobs attacking moose like mobs, and when I jumped in as I need both mobs... the both sets of mobs turned on me suddenly. The AI isnt a typical see enemy attack, some jump back... others circle around , some just charge in , some use their 'super' attack right off the bat (easy to avoid, move is heavily telegraphed at my level).

Now I get to experiment with the glyph system, and managed to enchant a few of my equipment... odd system but at least if a enchant fails it doesnt drop levels you just lose the materials used... today I think I'll mess with the glyphs , sort out my crafting... bloody expensive, my first attempt to craft left me without to afford to use the flight system to my next hub, its lucky a quest in the previous hub had a teleport as a reward.

There is alot more to this game than it looks, this game doesnt hold your hand on everything so you do have to make an effort in most things.

Btw i only just realised the character cap is not that bad. 2 Characters per server for basic f2p, 8 characters per server for vet f2p. The vital part being per server. Not so bad after all.

You will get bored of this game soon, as I said before it keeps your interest for a few months then dries up, that is why Rift is better of the two, shame its not F2P - I've played both of these since beta so I know what I say and loads will say the same :P

I don't disagree, Tera has always been an on and off MMO for me since beta, do a few months here, a few months there.
Anyone who has played WoW will get along well with Rift but as its P2P its not really comparable with Tera. I enjoyed Rift too.

I think with all MMO's its about what you put into it and what you expect to get out of it that makes or breaks that game for each person.

I have to disagree that Rift is better, I played a trial of that game and barely lasted a few hours and got bored... its not a terrible game but target and use skill system is so similar to WoW I may as well be playing WoW.
Tera at least has the active component, and dodging enemy attacks then hitting the off balanced target onto its arse doesnt get old that quick.

I watched a high level player tease a Kuma (Ogre like mob, big , fat and elite), player was just dodging the monsters attacks and the animations of the Kuma as it swung around trying to smash the player was impressive.
Me and another Mystic worked as a team to take one on... took a while , and we had to deal with re-spawning mobs but we dropped it in a pretty epic (for our level) battle... never had such a active battle (suppose GW2 may have that component, havent tried that game).

I may lose interest in the game at some stage but it is still catching me off guard with some surprising visual vistas and events, but it does annoy me occasionally with the quests... I dont mind killing x amount of y mob but I hate getting sent all over the place and spend more time on horseback than in combat mode.
Queue times are annoying as well as it is having a surge in popularity, and the barrens (WoW reference) chat isnt fun but doesnt stop you playing.
I havent had a issue with the F2P mode as yet, except the strongbox key issue... I have like 22 of the stupid boxes but refuse to buy keys but its not that I need to, I have decent gear (blue chest and shoes, green rest with a +5 enchanted weapon.

So far I am still having fun... the game just seems to be on the verge of boring me when it introduces something new.

Yeah quests are quite disappointing but combat does get a little spicier as you level up and get new skills. Best thing about the game are the boss fights, reminds me quite a bit of monster hunter. Might start a character on your server Flare but I really should concentrate on my beserker ><

Ive been trying Lancer recently, i've found that I can almost solo everything. It's not easy and elite monsters can be a real challenge but it makes it so much worth while once you drop them. I've been putting off doing BoL with my lancer, i haven't tanked before and I don't know the place that well.

Tanking in BoL shouldnt be an issue, I ran through it last with a 2 Mystics , 1 Sorc , 1 Slayer and a Berserker... and aggro wasnt too big a deal (except I got aggro each heal as the slayer and beserker dont have aggro skills to tank with).
Its a cakewalk, mostly tank and spank but very forgiving as it is the first dungeon player will get to play in... just make sure you clear out ALL the chambers before going to the last boss... I hear he can call in the rest of the dungeons mobs as adds.

Healing that dungeon as a Mystic was annoying... the idiots didnt give me a chance to prepare any motes, straight in grab aggro and then need direct heals which of course got the big guy jumping onto my head... even conjuring up a mote generate aggro if the boss is pulled, but using a mote doesnt generate aggro so if the mote is conjured before the boss is pulled, no aggro on the mote heals.

I am nearly at level high enough for the next dungeon, but I am too high for my area... havent started the SM area so dont even have any SM quests.

... havent played in a few days , Dead Space 3 has got my attention for now... loving the weapon craft (no I aint buying no stinkin DLC) and the setting is pretty good, and it runs well on a PC...got all the settings to max and theres only a few textures that mar the otherwise fine looking game.

If you have never played this mmo but fancied trying it out, now is the time. Not because it's 100% better than it was when released but because the European publisher of TERA have decided to be dicks and throw their toys out of the pram.

Basically you have until tomorrow to download/ start the download of TERA on steam before Steam region locks it.

TERA on steam is the North American (NA) version with an NA publisher.
EU Players have migrated to the steam version because the NA publishers have done a great job with the game unlike the EU cash grabbers.
The NA servers are better in all aspects including optimisation and latency/lag.
Because the EU publishers threw a hissy fit, the owners have made the NA publishers limit it.
If you have it downloaded before the deadline on steam, you can still play it. It's just the store page that disappears.

See full story below.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll give it a look soon :)
This is my sandvich. There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My sandvich is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my sandvich is useless. Without my sandvich, I am useless. I must eat my sandvich true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy, who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will. Before lunch I swear this creed: my sandvich and myself are defenders of my country, we are the masters of our enemy, we are the saviors of my life. So be it, until there is no enemy, but sandvich. Om nom.

I am tossing it on the old HDD, just in case... I am curious how the US servers cope and the EU publishers were greedy as hell regarding the prices of the store in comparison to the US costs, it wasn't even the typical $1 = £1 conversion IIRC.

Thanks for the heads up.
