Mount and Blade II - Bannerlord

Postby Shuriken on Thu Oct 02, 2014 10:35 am

I wasn't aware this was so far along in development yet. I was a big fan of the other games, it's good to see every aspect being improved upon.

Here's one of the latest dev blog videos showing off the engine and editor :)

This is my sandvich. There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My sandvich is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my sandvich is useless. Without my sandvich, I am useless. I must eat my sandvich true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy, who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will. Before lunch I swear this creed: my sandvich and myself are defenders of my country, we are the masters of our enemy, we are the saviors of my life. So be it, until there is no enemy, but sandvich. Om nom.

God, I can't wait for this.

Especially after the inevitable insane-yet-awesome mods.

I've never played a M&B game, what am I missing?

M&B/Warband is a medieval rpg/strategy game with 3rd-person action combat where you're a leader of a party (read: warband) of soldiers that can be a mercenary/lord for one of several major factions trying to conquer the land known as Calradia. Battles can involve hundreds of troops, and you level up your character & upgrade his equipment to your play style, as well as levelling up your band of soldiers until you're essentially a badass group of 100+ able to cut down many hundreds of enemies. You can even create your own faction eventually and try to conquer Calradia for yourself (Warband only)

The gameplay can be a little repetitive & grindy, plus the questing and ally/enemy AI isn't the best, but I find it to be a very addictive game that I always revisit every 6 months or so.

There's also multiplayer introduced in Warband that can be a lot of fun as well. The game has a great modding community too, which really give it legs.

On the subject of modding: does anyone have any recommendations for single player mods? Recently played Perisno which seemed really good, but a little too buggy and incomplete for my liking - currently playing Prophesy of Pendor though which is solid.

Prophecy of Pendor is one of the top tier mods there is out there for M&B. I personally like Warsword Conquest because it's Warhammer FB mod, but it's still quite WIP. But so far they've done is amazing. Other great I've played is Bryttenwalde. I tries a more realistic approach with loads of different features and is quite challenging.

Have you tried Napoleonic Wars? My personal favorite. There's just something amazing about slowly advancing towards a castle and shooting a slow reloading, inaccurate musket with 50 other people by your side.

A Clash of Kings mod is probably the best game adaptation of Game of Thrones out there atm. Not even joking.

Bannerlord does seem exceptionally good, especially after being used to watching the old M&B graphics. Looking forward to it :)
