i personally always end up with portishead. it really isnt my kind of music, but i lived with the hallmates from hell during my 4th year of uni. so whenever i was trying to work i'd have my stereo cranked to block them out, sadly rock/metal didnt help my concentration. but portishead songs tend to be very relaxed, yet have the right looooooow frequencies to vibrate my former neighbours into quietening down. so it helped me work, and shut them up or drowned them out.

i quite like a bit Amon Tobin, DJ Shadow, Herbaliser, even Royksopp (lo-fi style) or hip hop (not rap) now and then when i want to stay electronic. i have a massive collection of old soul/funk/jazz though.

get on this one - souls of mischief sampled it and sped it up in their own timeless classic 93 til infinity. its a smooth jazz tune from god knows when called 'heather' by 'billy cobham. marvellously relaxing https://youtu.be/lZd4BdSpG9g
