Popos DoD Map WIP

Postby The_Pope on Tue Jun 27, 2006 12:21 pm

Right, the title may of been misleading but I haven't started it yet, jsut done some concept sketches but I need your opinion

Option 1. A trench map, where the Axis start off in trenches and the Allies have to assault them

Option 2. A French Hamlet, with minimum houses, however it would be surrounded by forest & a river

Option 3. A densely packed town, lots of dust, rubble and destroyed bits

(p.s. sorry that it's in the wrong section, but I really wanted a bigger feedback from the DoD community xD)

Im going for more of a 3 flanks sort of Idea as i think these work better than the bigger ones. Im going to start mine pretty soon also I might make a few walls breakables in mine which should add to the more options in routes you can take :P

I voted for option 1. I like option 2, if you can genuinely run around in the woods around the hamlet. There are too many maps around like option 3 already.

You should put in a blackadder and baldrick model for comedy affect if you do trenches.
But I'm feeling good, And if you don't exist, you're still one illusion that I can't resist

I think the hardest thing about a trench map is the fact that if one person got an mg planted on top he could just shoot all the heads that pop up, its also going to be hard to mak eit even and it could be so plain. I have a jungle one if you want me to send you the BSP and im sure you could convert it to a VMF if not I can do it incase you want to look at the clips etc... But I would try and stick to three flanks as all valve maps are ;)

NEVER! ><

Na, I'd do it in my own style anyway, I might nick the forest from my zombie game if I do the forest one as it pwns so hard ><

but yeah I can do all these maps, and they'd work nciely, so just vote on what you'd most like to do :P

When you see the people pop there heads up they will get pwned, there is an easy way to counter act it :)

Just smoke nomans land, run in, go prone around 3 quarters of the way there, lob some grenades in the trench and rush in! xD

Having put more thought into it, I have decided that teh trenches would not be the best idea (mainly as they hardly used trenches in WWII, they were generally used in the first one)

So I have cobbled together a map which used parts of all 3, although still keeping it quite small and claustrophobic.

When I get home I shall scan in the map design for y'all :P

Bringing a topic back form the dead rather then creating a new one.

I seriously now nede you all to tell me what you think about this Idea.

Set on top of a dark dreary Hill in the heart of Germany, The Allies have to assault a scary Transylvainianesque Castle.

The map itself would be set in stages wit the spawns moving, the Allies moving up a hill at first and then calling in artillery to destroy the door, then assault the inside of the castle.

Involving lots of graphical effects, odd areas and what not it will create a new style of gameplay and a new feeling everytime you play it!

Layout to come soon ^_^

Tbh, artillery sounds great :D I'd love to see that happen! The whole idea is also good, but watch out when making it that it's hard for the axis team to spawncamp with an MG from the castle, which to me could seem like something that would be done on such a map. Anyway, sounds good :)

That's kind of what I'm hopping the Axis will do, as I sad the map will be in stages, when teh Allies destroy the thing wiht thbe artillery the spawns will shift up.

Gonna be hard to balance but should be good.
