I found this on the Steam forums and to be fair, it's a brilliant article on mapping techniques as well as a general guide and refresher :)

There actualy are far better guides on tf2maps themselve and alot more resources. The detailing one however is still a nice one to look at: - How valve does details - Valve maps (and custom maps that reached valve status) decompiled - Or to see how not to make mistakes - Displacements

There are alot more but these are the ones i remember atm.

Go for MapCore guys lots of stuff there or just use the SDK Wiki shows everything and every in and out tip for all source games;)

Mapping is the most important factor in video games and that is necessary to understand the map in the game for the players as well. The developers are making the games easier while adding a quick review tour of the features.
