I found this on the Steam forums and to be fair, it's a brilliant article on mapping techniques as well as a general guide and refresher :)

There actualy are far better guides on tf2maps themselve and alot more resources. The detailing one however is still a nice one to look at: - How valve does details - Valve maps (and custom maps that reached valve status) decompiled - Or to see how not to make mistakes - Displacements

There are alot more but these are the ones i remember atm.

Go for MapCore guys lots of stuff there or just use the SDK Wiki shows everything and every in and out tip for all source games;)
