Hey all
Just wondering how you lot set your screenshots of TF2 as your desktop wallpapers, as i seem to have a long winded route to do this and wondered if there's an easier way.
As it saves it as a TGA image, i have to open the screenshot i want, in C: drive, Program files, STEAM, SteamApps, 'my username' folder, Team Fortress 2, tf, and finally screenshots folder(i've since put a shortcut on my desktop to save going thru this process every time), click on a picture, edit (at top) and copy, then edit and paste it into paint in windows xp, if i free-form (star shape) and select(rectangular box to the right of star), then click top left and bottom right, then edit(at top) and copy to(a folder or somewhere) it'll save it as BITMAP which i can then use on desktop as my wallpaper.
Seems long winded to me , i've tried a TGA to JPEG download thing but that didn't see any TGA files on my computer, hence the long winded steps just to set it as my desktop pic.
Any help? I'm not exactly a computer wizz-kid so step-by-step would be useful! Or a link.

Unless i'm the only one sad enough to want a TF2 screenshot as my desktop feel free to throw handfuls of virtual chocolate-covered marsh mellows at me!

I use a free program named "Infranview" and it is very useful. You just have to search the TGA file and the program transform it to any type you want (like jpeg).

easy peasy mate

open the game go to options -> keyboard -> advanced and tick console enabled

then go in game and press `

type this (minus quotation marks) "bind f5 Jpeg"
then type "jpeg_quality 100"

then all u need to do is press f5 and u will get a jpeg and tga quality suitable for a desktop

There are commands to remove ur hud etc if u wanna know grab us on msn/steamfriends

and no I have had tf2 in game shots as desktops before. had one from dustbowl stage 1 (looking from spawn -> cap point), one from goldrush and others

Is there a list of these commands somewhere, be interesting to see what exactly you can do in the game, and is there a reset incase it gets messed up,maybe a silly question but do you just type '-' (minus symbol) infront of the command you entered?

to remove a bind just type "unbind" then the key.

so in the above case it would be

unbind f5.

erm heres a list to all the commands available at ur finger tips... 2600+ of them...

note many if not most will be server side only (you wont be able to change them)

also if you want to change something specific you can usually search for it in the console.

Type find graph (eg net_graph) and it will give u a list of the commands with graph in their name... its a bit wonky at first as you kinda need to know what you looking for but things like material scales etc will be under "mat_", anything regarding networking are under "net_" etc etc.

then when you know what you want to change type it in without wanted to edit anything and it will give u a brief description about what it changes and an example...

eg net_graph
shows network rate values 1,2,3... (i think thats how its laid out)

dont worry about not knowing stuff like this! we all started at one time or another

Yeah you lost me! All very interesting, i can see alot are to do with the server side of it, will have a better read up on it all and see how much i can understand.
