The Homewrecker Discussion

Postby Gh0st.IRE on Sat May 08, 2010 10:14 am

So TF2 got an update and in it the Homewrecker got a weapon-changing buff.

Updated the Homewrecker
It now damages enemy sappers on friendly buildings

What do you think about this? Personally I think its great for that defensive spy-checking pyro but it may be a pain for Spys. Not only must the kill the Engi but now any Hammer-weilding pyro is an anti-sap threat too.

I think its alot harder for the Spy though - Considering the pyro will spam his flamethrower in and around the dispenser and if the spy could even get close to sap, the pyro will just knock em off :S - Plus if the Engi is there two then there isnt a chane of the spy getting the nest down

It is obvious that the pyro is now a truly defensive class. Why are valve so anti pyro suicide runs?

I dont know really, since the last nerf i've swapped my classic loadout for the new weps (flare and axe) if used right you can get twice as much point as before.
Compression Blasting/deflecting aint that hard anymore it's a bit disappointing for me.
It was the most difficult thing to learn in TF2 and they made it too easy now..

As for the new homewrecker change it makes the weapon more a sidegrade imho when you're on the defense on the map.
I haven't tried out the new change but it seems fair to me.

the problem is that the heavy, soldier and demo have way more firepower now than ever before. there are also millions of ways to put out fires. the pyro just isnt as effective as an attacking class anymore. the only way to fix that is to buff the pyros health, valve won't do this because this will help good and bad pyros. perhaps some middle ground could be found by buffing the shotgun, this is the pyros main weapon and will allow the pyro to be more effective "mid-range" making the class more worthwhile without making it a suicide rush class.

it seems that valve are upping the pyros defensive capability to give the class something useful. im outraged.

EDIT: i forgot to add that melee weapons are pretty useless on the pyro, they always have been. unless you juggle and axetinguish but even this opens you up to attack from everyone else on the other team. i'll probably use the homewrecker now, cos i never really used the axe. the shotgun and flamer were always more effective at close range.

I think its great for the engineers like you said, now you can walk of an make a tele or something while they defend. But you always get the dickhead pyros who will just stand there an leave the sappers on your stuff.. ¬.¬

I hear one major problem of the homewrecker that actualy isnt good. it can 1 hit destroy sappers. So basicly the pyro is better at that than an engy which just isnt good. It however doesnt seem to remove it on the other side of a teleport. Its good a pyro can destroy them as that realy is something a engy needs without requiring to have more engies on your team but he shouldnt be better than an engie at that.
Now on the workshop!

I've found three :D

As Nev said the Shotgun needs a buff. Now I dont think thats fair because then Soldier and Engi will get the buff shotty too. What I think is needed is a new unlock for the pyro. Somthing similar to the shotgun but an improved version to make it more primary then the flamethrower. Maybe a shotgun with + damage and a % to set the target on fire or somthing to keep the "pyro theme" alive at least because at the moment its an Air-o or a Shutgun-o, not a Pyro.

backburner+homewrecker
flamethrower+axtinguisher

no point to have axtinguisher with backburner while
it deal more dmg then flamethrower
it deal critical while attacking from behind
you cant push someone on the wall
homewrecker take down sapper faster then engie
If i said something wrong, correct me please. ^^

new engie unlock: The Pyro

Anything that reduces Axtinguisher use is a good thing in my book.

In other news, will this actually be that useful? I mean, let's not forget that the Pyro is STILL the best spy counter by now. If they're by an engi being sapper harrassed it would be simpler to just kill the spy and let the engi deal with the sappers. Start desapping yourself and the spy will just keep going.

Inev - I think its designed so that if the Engi gets killed and his gear gets sapped that an idle pyro can save it after killing the spy.

That was fun times. I can exactly remember what triggered you, but that MASSIVE rant you did once was pretty epicly funny. Cut down on the anti-Pyro after that though :3

But back on topic, I don't really know what to think of this. I kinda wish they haven't done this, Mostly for the spies Sake, specially since his job is hard enough without having a pyro being able to unsap.

I think it's great. So many times I've killed a Spy and been helpless to do anything to save the Engineer's stuff. Now when I'm Pyro, I can do something.

But yeah, with my Spy hat on, this sucks! (Although in reality, I probably wouldn't go anywhere near if I saw a Pyro, 'cause I'm a rubbish spy anyway.)

Maybe the new engineer wrench (I think its a blowtorch to go with the hat :P) will only do half damage to sappers? Or maybe they realised the homewrecker was useless... who knows
