Steam chat font size

Postby alias on Wed May 08, 2013 6:30 pm

Since the last steam update the chat font size was changed. If you are like me and think its ugly and poorly readable (due to using smaller windows) you can use the following trick:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/s ... stcount=47
For anyone wanting to change the font size back to normal:

  1. Go to this folder: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\resource\styles" and find the file that says "steam.styles"
  2. Open it with notepad or notepad++
  3. Scroll down to the comment: "// styles for text used in RichText controls in various places"
  4. Where it says "friends_chat_text" all the way to "friends_chat_securitylink", just replace all the instances of "font-size=16" with "font-size=14"
  5. Save the file and close it, then restart steam.
Now on the workshop!

Also to make sure it does not change back with each update create a folder in Steam > skins and copy the graphics and resource folders into it, then select it in the Steam settings as your skin. :)
