Have the recent quickplay changes impacted server traffic?

Postby rgslane the trackpad on Sun Feb 09, 2014 9:17 pm

I've noticed #2/3/6/7 are still usually full in the evenings, but some servers some of the time- most noticably #8- are nowhere near as full as they were before. Has anyone else noticed this or am I just seeing things?

Well probably not since #2 is almost always empty now.

It used to be full all the time, this is sad :(

Will #2 was never on quick play to bring with. it was #4/#7 only servers that was included. #2 is always full in the evenings not like the good old days when I started playing around 3 o clock in the afternoon on #2 but times change.

Maybe it's time to put #2 on quick play? :d

#2 isn't eligible for quick play due to the server settings IIRC.

The short answer to this is, yes. With quickplay defaulting to valve servers we have seen a pretty big drop in traffic, particularly to our vanilla servers. However, we lived before quickplay and we will live on. We still have a fantastic community around us :)

Lots of communities are finding exactly the same thing.

The changes in Quickplay have severely impacted server traffic and this has been confirmed by admins from other communities who have analysed their server traffic. The Quickplay default to Valve servers simply means that players are not finding Community servers. Whether or not a server is on Quickplay seems to make little difference.

As Apache says, servers are more reliant than ever on their communities. UKCS is lucky in that it has a large and loyal one. Now is the time to seriously stick by and support your local community servers!

Last night I had a lot of trouble connecting to ukcs server, they were all full excepted #1 and #2 I think.

Most people would have connected and filled those servers if they weren't empty.
Do you have any suggestions to fill up those server? I can't afford me to wait for an hour to fill the server because then I will have to go and stop playing by the times the server gets alive :D

Problem is not everyone likes instant respawn. It ruins payload, Red winning every round all night long gets boring.

Do really miss the ukcs servers, the skill level on default Valve servers is appalling.

It is hard to please all of the people all of the time. We just have to do our best. The choices are instant and default and the community chose instant. It was obviously going to upset some people and I can totally see why, though we try and be as democratic as possible.
