Kicked at map change

Postby ro_dr2007 on Sun Oct 18, 2015 12:06 am

I've been playing on UKCS servers (especially on the former #8 - Payloads Rotation) for some time... I have more than 692 hours played here, I am ranked the 69th... and yet, almost everyday I AM KICKED AT MAP CHANGE, sometimes even twice a day!

So, I try to connect for 10 - 15 min, than I connect, play one map or two... and than I am kicked and have to start all over again! I get a message that the slot is reserved for paying members. So, apparently, a paying member is able to disconnect a non-paying member when he/she wants to connect. I don't think this is fair.
Once I am connected, shouldn't I stay connected untill I decide to leave? Or it's just in real life, where if you have no money, you have absolutelly no right?

you could also look at it in reverse. you pay to play but cant get on because someone who hasn't paid is hogging a slot. add to that, the fact that if no one pays the server dies through lack of funding. i know who i'd prioritise on map switches.
there's nothing malicious in it as you imply. it's just a simple fact the server is community funded and people get what they pay for.

thats the whole point of sponsor slots? this only happens when the server is full. you could consider sponsoring a slot yourself.

Unless I'm wrong and things have changed recently without me seeing, Non-VIP's can't use the VIP slots so it shouldn't have anything to do with VIP's kicking you out if you're a normal player. If you've joined and the server is full but the two VIP slots have yet to be filled by VIP's you will get a message saying so.

Could it be a ping kick or even the server AFK kicking you at the end of a round? What exactly happens when you're "kicked" at the end of a round?

I got the message that I've been disconnected because I am on a slot reserved for VIP members. Wich is impossible, because I am not a VIP (and, judgind by my paycheck, it will be hard... but maybe I'll eventually do it, I see I am already labeled as sponsor :) ), and when there are 30 players on the server, I get the message that the 2 remaining slots are for VIPs and I can NOT connect on them. I sometimes start a server and get VIP that day, but, still, I am not unable to kick other players so I can join when the server is full. I will save a print screen next time it happens.

It is not an AFK kick, simply when the map changes, at some point in the loading time I get the message that the slot I am using is reserved for a VIP and the reocmandation to donate in order to get my self the right to use that slot. Also, it is not a ping kick (my ping is about 40 - 50 ms all the time and I've seen players with higher pings).
One admin once told me is because of my loading times... from what I observed, TF2 is connecting slower to UKCS than other servers (and it's not necessary because of the ping; I tried the Valve servers and I can join there faster than on UKCS) and I am always lagging the first 1 or 2 minutes after the connection is established. I sometimes join an empty server (like #7) so I lag there a few minutes and then try to move on #8.

My computer has an AMD Athlon II X4 630 processor, 4 GB of RAM (2,87 usable due to Win7 x86), 1 GB of video memory on a nVidia GT220 board and the game is installed on a 2 TB Seagate SSHD hard disk. It's not a top configuration, but it should be able to support an 8 years old game like Team Fortress 2.

That message will pop up if 30 people have managed to join ahead of you and then VIPs try to join. It's unfortunate, but your distance to the UK may be a factor in how long it takes you to connect between maps. I understand that it's frustrating, but there is no way of the server knowing who was on the server during the last map to give them priority on the next.

If you have any other queries feel free to PM me or shoot me a message on Steam.

So the server is not making a list with the players on the last map to allow them priority on the new map?
Here's the score board at the end of a map... there are people with higher pings than me. Why they don't have any problem? If not the ping, than what is influencing the load time?
Image

So, your conclusion is that I just have to get used to this or pay some money or find other server.

So I was in game than I was kicked! Even if the console says "Players: 29 / 32", so there are not even 32 players there, so I couldn't be on the VIP slot!

i can't believe you're still going on about this. yes, it is frustrating but it isn't singling you out. it happens to everyone who hasn't donated. it's just unlucky. it could be worse and just kick you mid map as soon as a donator decides to join! i know some servers that do that. i'm pretty sure the big boss would be interested if you have a better soloution, besides removing the reservation system all together.

i'll say it again though, it would be really frustrating if you did actually pay and couldn't get on because everyone who hasn't wants to sit in the server for hours. i ended up donating recently because i was in the same boat and i just started working again and now have some spare funds. i would have donated anyway as i have been playing here for years on and off, but, the server slot reservation just gave me that little bit extra encouragement to do so as i too was getting kicked at map changes. you must realise it's a really busy server and it's not that much easier getting on even once you have donated. all i can suggest is trying to gain the server start up slot(s) bonus as you have been doing. it is huge for people who have limited funds, and, i can't think of any other donation funded servers that have this excellent bonus.

Frustrating? I'm on the point I'd like to throw my monitor away! It is happening everyday! Today I joiuned the server when there were 7 people on it! 7, I wasn't fast enough to get the slot for server starter. The server became full, after 2 maps I was kicked and there's no chance to get back probably the whole night! Do you think this is OK?!

You could at least put an announcment at map start: ,,Unless you pay, you WILL be disconnect when the map changes. Better luck tomorrow."
Or put more reserved slot, so everybody knows that poor guys are not allowed in so only 5 (the server starters) are allowed. That would fix a lot of problems, because people would know what to expect and that, as in real life, no money = no fun.

Donation might look good for you, but you don't live and work in the Eastern Europe. I wonder what's the minimum salary in UK? Im sure it's more than 128 GBP/month. Or in what amount of time do any of you earns 140 GBP. Maybe I should spend all my savings on a plane ticket to UK and find myself a job there... and get rid of all my patriotic pride of not leaving my country for money. That would bring me enough money to buy myself the right of not being kicked at map change.

i have followed this thread since the beginning and tbh you are annoying me now the whole point is that people who sponsor the servers get reserve slots (they pay for that privilege) those people fund the servers/forums etc and that in reality is the only benefit they get. they stand a good chance themselves of not being able to get on if the server is full and there are already sponsors on.

there were times when i was an admin here (on CSS Servers admittedly) that i had to pay the sponsor fee to even get on and sort out a problem before now.

your country's economic situation really has nothing to do with this. your basically saying that people should just pay money to play on the server with the possibility that they may not be able to get on because too many non sponsoring players are already there? do you think that is fair??? without those people sponsoring the servers there would be no servers.

for goodness sake grow up it is a game?? if you are not in a situation to sponsor then you just need to deal with it like the 90% of other players on the servers that do not sponsor a slot.

as Heuji said move on

I remember a time waiting for 45 mins with my VIP to try and get in to sort out a hacker on server 8 :( when maps end you usually get in anyway and VIP doesn't always help.

I agree. But from the privilege to play to the privilege to simply kick other players? Is this even in the rules of the servers? As I said, when I join a server, there is no message that, unless I agree to pay, I can and will be baned at map change. This is exactly as in real life: you drive you car/bike/motorbike on the road, than the police stops you, pull you over so the Minister can pass freely with his police escort. You've done nothing wrong, you knew that the road is public, it is not a toll road, but still you have to wait for a guy more "important" than you to pass. Obviously, after the Minister passes, the cars on the 1st lane won't let you back on the road for several minutes. It is exacly the same situation as here... you play a free-to-play game, than you are kicked so a rich VIP guy can play... than you have to wait an hour untill you can connect again.

hagz wrote:our country's economic situation really has nothing to do with this.

I'm really curious how many UKCS VIP players are from Romania, Moldova, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Serbia and how many paid that slot from their own money, not from the one of their parents.
Sometime I wonder why my country was accepted in the EU. I also realize why UK and Germany are afraid that Romanians and Bulgarians would come and steal their jobs... I mean, they are working on 140 - 150 GBP per month, of course they'll be gald to accept 600 GBP even for the worst job possible.

quote="hagz"]if you are not in a situation to sponsor then you just need to deal with it like the 90% of other players on the servers that do not sponsor a slot. [/quote]
OK, I got the point... after all, if life is hard, why should gaming be easy? Or cheap? Or free? There's no such thing as free-to-play and nothing is free.

I'll just keep clicking. Starting from tommorrow I won't eat at work... that means 1 GBP saved per day. I heard that the minimum donation for a slot is 4 GBP. 4 days with no food at work isn't a big deal, I'd still have my coffee (because I bought it in advance and I prepare it myself, I don't buy it from a machine).

I looked in the donation menu and I found only PayPal (so no card payment, other than PayPal). I had a PayPal account years ago, for buying things from e-bay. As I remember, this involves fees, processing times, PayPal account, PayPal code on the bank statement (so an extra-trip to the bank). Are other methods available (esspecially payment directly by card)?

It's a game, but there is nowehere else to play it. I could't find other TF2 payload server, with 16vs16 players, with non-Valve maps and with Stats.

By the way, I used to play on other servers wich also used the VIP system... I was never kicked at map change, even if I wasn't VIP (eventually I became, but not by money, they were also giving VIPs based on the server activity - time, frags, not breaking the rules etc.).
