UKCS Website/Ranks outage - Friday 21/08 - COMPLETE

There will be short 1 hour outage of UKCS website ranks system during Friday. This is to install extra memory on the web server to improve performance. The outage will be approximately 1 hour and the final time is not yet fixed. Somewhere between 9am and 4pm.

During the outage there will be:

- No UKCS website
- No in game ranks recording or display
- No in game features that require database access (eg, map ranking etc)
- No in game high speed downloads of maps/sounds etc
- Possible interruptions to 1.6 server

We apologise for the inconvenience this improvement work may cause during its implementation.

This took longer than expected and encountered some other issues afterwards causing an extended outage of UKCS.

The extra memory has been installed now. There is further tuning to be done to make use of that memory but that is deferred until next week.

Thanks for the heads up TC , outages are not the real problem it is lack of consideration for vistors that causes the irritation, and that irritation is relieved / removed by simply keeping vistors informed ... of course unplanned issues are different kettle of fish

EDIT: PS is it possible to have a Generic ' Down for planned maintenance ' page when the server is down ? I got a mysql access error when I tried to access the site during the downtime... not very informative

Unfortunately, the entire webserver was taken offline so there was no way to make a custom page like that.

The MySQL error you received was one of the knock-on effects of the downtime that TC promptly dealt with.

I just logged in to see what time the server would be down, and low and behold its done already....hoorah for TC!
