Tempo's Signature Tutorial using Photoshop (Moderate - Hard)

Postby Templar+ on Sun Jun 22, 2008 3:59 am

ok so i find myself in a moment where i cant really sleep and well im also waiting on 2 poker tournaments so i thought id go ahead and make my very first tut for you guys, this is no easy tutorial with about 30 steps in total so you will need to pay attention.

This Tutorial is for the UKCS forums only so you wont see it anywhere else!

Ok this is the signature your going to learn to make:
Image

Step01: Start of with a black canvas
Image

Step02: Next we are going to add the render i used in its original size, any bit will do for your starting background, then get your smudge tool and smudge the render in different places so that the outcome so far is similar to this
Image

Step03: Next we are going to add in the render but at a smaller size because this is going to be our main focal point
Image

Step04: Get your brush tool and set it the mode to linear dodge and lower the opacity to about 40% and set the brush colour to white, then you need to brush in a few places as it adds to depth and brings out the lighter places
Image

Step05: then what you need to do is add all the layers you have atm together this helps to smudge and do other things by pressing Ctrl+Alt+E, so now you need to smudge the render and around the edges of the render to blend the render a little into the background
Image

Step06: Again press Ctrl+Alt+E and do Filter>Distort>Glass then set the layer to Pin Light and delete in places so that its all not too distorted
Image

Step07: Now we are gonna add in C4D's and delete them in places
Image

Step08: add the layers together gaian by pressing Ctrl+Alt+E and Filter>Distort>Glass, again set the layer on Pin Light
Image

Step09: press Ctrl+Alt+E and then Filter>Blur>Blur and erase the face and upper torso of your render because you dont want to much blur on your main focal point
Image

Step10: Ok we are gonna add in a few more C4D's for effects and delete them as in places as appropriate
Image

Step11: Then we are gonna make update the layer by pressing Ctrl+Alt+E and smudge the C4D's we just placed on the layer for blending effects
Image

Step12: Again add the layers together and and set the layer on Hard Light and delete in places mainly around your focal point, the Hard Light will bring out the colour in your C4D's
Image

Step13: Add your layers together again then add a gradient map do this by Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Gradient Map, now you need to set it on about 20% opacity and it needs to be black to white
Image

Step14: Next we are gonna blur the layer that we have and delete mainly around the focal point of the sig
Image

Step15: Next we are gonna add up all the layers again and then make the layer Exposure do this by Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Exposure and mess about with the settings to get this result
Image

Step16: Add up all the layers again lol (bet your getting tired of this Ctrl+Alt+E malarky) and again we need to Filter>Distort>Glass and then set the layer to Pin Light and delete in most places just to bring out a bit more effect out of your C4D's
Image

Step17: we are gonna do exactly the same as in step 16 with the glass and pin light effect but this time change the settings to get a slightly different outcome and add all the layers together
Image

Step18: Next we are gonna pick the spot healing brush tool and used it in places and delete where necassery to add some more effect
Image

Step19: Add up all the layers and again we are gonna use Filters>Distort>Glass and then set the layer to Pin Light and delete in places
Image

Step20: Ok grab your brush tool again set it to white and set it to Linear Dodge and at 40% opacity then brush over your lightest parts of the sig to add to the depth some more
Image

Step21: Add your layers together by pressing Ctrl+Alt+E again and set that layer on Filters>Blur>Blur and delete the blur over your focal point
Image

Step22: add your layers together again and then were gonna sharpen up what we have made so far by pressing Filters>Sharpen>Sharpen
Image

Step23: Now were gonna add some more lighting effects by Filters>Render>Lighting Effects and then choose Crossing, then play around with it to get it something like this
Image

Step24: Then add up the layers once again then were gonna add in the same gradient map as we did before but this time set it to 20% opacity
Image

Step25: add up the layers again and then Filters>Noise>Median and delete everywhere apart from around the light sources in the signature
Image

Step27: I then smudged on her/his/it's stomach because there was abit of effect there that didnt look right so smudged it in to make it more unoticable =P
Image

Step28: Then i added up the layers again and then did Layer>Adjustment Layer>Hue/Saturation and played around with the settings to get the purplish pinky colour and erased over her/his/it's face
Image

Step29: Then i added a small brush that goes over the right shoulder of the warlock its not too noticable but i wanted to add it anyway, then deleted and made the new layer to soft light
Image

Step30: Finally the last step! i added up the layers and then added a border using the line tool on 15px and added text
Image

FINITO! hope you guys get use out of this tutorial and please dont rip it and splash it on some other GFX site it took me a long time to get this up.

your best one yet mickey =) i love it

even if the tut gets you a little confused and is hard to follow (remember this tut is for the more experienced photoshopper)

you will at least walk away with a few new tricks.

Brilliant tutorial Templ0r :)

You really do love the filter -> distort -> glass.

I gave it a go, took some parts with a pinch of salt .... I just missed them out basically  . I didn't bother using C4D's ... mainly because I've never used them and I can't be arsed moping about on the interwebs looking for the 'right' one.

Image

As a tribute to your tutorial ... I think that's one of the best sigs I've created!

Temp, you're the man!
I'm in such a dry spell from good ideas atm and this tutorial inspired me for my next sig, so I might be back in business :D
Thanks mate!

On another note, that sig is fantastic Ferris, definitely my favourite from you so far! Some of the best lighting effects I've seen in a while :)
